Southern Ozaukee Fire and EMS The department provides emergency services to the communities of Mequon and Thiensville. The Department has attained a split class ISO rating of 5/10.

About The Fire Department: The Department has been providing fire and emergency medical services to residents for over 75 years. It provides fire prevention, fire suppression, rescue and in conjunction with the ambulance department, emergency medical services. It is responsible for plan review of new construction and inspection of all commercial, industrial and multi-family residences. The departm

ent also provides fire safety education throughout the community, as well an annual open house. The department serves over 24,000 residents in approximately 48 square miles and operates out of two firehouses on the east and west sides of the city. Personnel respond to over 1700 emergency calls each year, which include fire, various rescue type calls, auto accidents, hazardous materials spills, weather-related emergencies, emergency medical calls and mutual aid to surrounding fire departments. The department is comprised of about 60 paid-on-call firefighters, firefighter/EMTs and EMTs who are issued pagers and respond to the scene or station when needed for emergency medical care or a fire. Fire suppression in the city is provided by a full-time fire chief and approximately 60 paid-on-call members.

đźš§ Ozaukee Interurban Trail Closure Update đźš§

Good news! The trail culvert washout has been repaired at Highland Rd. and the Ozaukee Interurban Trail is now back open to the public.

Please note this is a temporary fix, and the surface will be repaved at a later date. “Bump” signs are currently in place—please use caution when traveling through the area.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding during the repair process. Thank you for helping us keep the trail safe for all users!

Barn Roof Collapse Results in Multiple Rescues on West County Line Road

Mequon, Wisconsin — April 13, 2026 — At approximately 10:00am The Southern Ozaukee Fire Department responded to a report of a barn roof collapse with multiple individuals trapped in the 2200 block of West County Line Road.

Upon arrival, crews located several injured individuals outside the structure and confirmed that three people were trapped inside beneath collapsed debris. Firefighters initiated rescue operations and, with assistance from mutual aid partners successfully extricated all trapped victims.

A total of seven patients were transported to area hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to serious. The cause of the collapse remains under investigation.

“This was a challenging rescue operation that required coordination between multiple agencies,” said Fire Chief David Bialk. “Thanks to the rapid response and teamwork, all trapped individuals were safely removed.”

West County Line Road was temporarily closed during the incident to allow emergency operations to proceed safely.
