Poolee Cordova, just recently departed for Marine Corps basic training and will now have the title, Recruit. We want to wish him good luck down in San Diego, Ca where he’ll be challenged for 13 weeks to earn the title United States Marine.

From his own words:
“I wanted to not stress about money, college and a place to live.

The specific reason I chose the Marines is the challenge I’d have to face, that I know is much harder than other branches and all the accomplishments that comes with it.

Long term I hope to carry on the pride and tradition, knowing I achieved a great goal.”

Keat Cullen (PFC) Private First Class, United States Marine. A 2021 graduate of Golden Valley High School, PFC Cullen recently completed Marine basic and combat training. His next assignment is military occupational specialty school in Fort Lee, Virginia. He will be assisting at the Marine Corps recruiting office for the next month, come ask him about his experience.

In his own words:

“I joined the Marine Corps to challenge myself and to better myself as an individual. Another reason for joining was family influence, my Dad was in the Marine Corps and that inspired me to join.”

DEP:
The Delayed Entry Program helped better prepare myself for the challenges of recruit training. It was a great way for me to stay in shape and meet lots of new people who are working towards the same goal of earning the title Marine.

Basic Training experience:
Boot camp was a life changing experience for me, it wasn’t easy at all either. It taught me how to work as a team, overcome physical and mental challenges, and it taught me self discipline. One of the hardest parts about it was being away from home and having to adapt to a new way of life.

Coming home:
What I look forward to most about being back home is spending quality time with family and friends during the Holidays.

For Marines, the call to serve never truly goes away. Long after active duty, their commitment continues, positively impacting communities across our Nation. That is the meaning of Semper Fidelis. Always Faithful. Always Marine.

On November 10, 2021, U.S. Marines around the globe celebrate a 246-year legacy of battlefield prowess defined by courage, discipline, loyalty, perseverance, adaptability, leadership, and warfighting innovation.

The annual birthday message delivered by the Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. David H. Berger, and the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps, Sgt. Maj. Troy Black, acknowledges the generation of Marines who joined after the terrorist attacks of 9/11, who later served in Iraq and Afghanistan, and who now approach their retirement milestone.

It also highlights the culture of innovation being cultivated by Marine leaders to enable the Marine Corps to remain America’s force in readiness—prepared to fight and win in every clime and place.
