Help Shape California’s Aging, Disability, and Long-Term Care Agenda

As Californians who are deeply involved in aging and disability issues, you have a unique perspective on where the state can do better to support older adults and people with disabilities. On behalf of a statewide partnership of aging and disability funders and organizations, I’m writing to invite you to help craft a new agenda for California’s next governor.

Your personal expertise is critical and we want to ensure the next administration’s priorities are directly informed by those affected by state policies and programs. Our partnership is currently developing ideas and key messages for the next Administration and we invite you to be part of this effort.

To share your perspective and thoughts, please take the brief survey. The survey will remain open through September 4.

Thank you so much for helping us shape a better future for older adults and people with disabilities in California. Your feedback truly makes a difference!

Update: Tire Fire in Ballico

Crews are making significant progress on the Tire Fire in Ballico and are using all appropriate methods to keep the incident contained and controlled.

Due to the nature of this fire, it’s not as simple as spraying it with water. Fires involving large volumes of rubber can continue to smolder and produce smoke until the material has completely burned out. While the amount of smoke has reduced significantly, crews expect the fire could continue to smolder through the weekend and produce some residual smoke.

As a reminder, Merced County Cooling Zones are also operating as clean air centers and are supplied with N95 masks for anyone who would like one. Find a Cooling Zone near you at www.countyofmerced.com/coolingzones.

Although conditions have improved, residents in and around Ballico are encouraged to reduce outdoor activities, particularly if you smell smoke, and continue taking steps to limit exposure.

Continue to follow Merced County, Merced County Department of Public Health, and Valley Air District for any future updates pertaining to health alerts/air quality.

Thank you to the firefighters and emergency personnel who have been working around the clock to bring this incident under control.

Thanks to Measure V, seniors (aged 62 years old and up) can ride The Bus for free! In order to ride any fixed-route or microtransit service (aka The Micro Bus) for free, just show the driver a valid photo ID that shows your date of birth when you board, hop on and enjoy the air-conditioned ride.

Measure V is a half-cent transportation sales tax passed in November 2016 by Merced County voters for the purposes of local transportation maintenance and improvements over a 30-year span. Five percent of all revenue generated by the Measure is dedicated to the support of transit services within Merced county.
