Did you know Merced County has an invasive mosquito? 🦟

Aedes aegypti is a small black-and-white mosquito that bites during the DAY — not just at dusk and dawn like most mosquitoes.

These sneaky mosquitoes lay their eggs on the inside walls of containers and only need about a teaspoon of water to reproduce. Even worse? Their eggs can survive dry conditions for up to 5 years.

Unlike many other mosquitoes, Aedes aegypti usually stay within about 300 feet of where they hatch — so if you’re noticing daytime mosquito bites, the source is probably VERY close by.

Check around your home for tiny sources of standing water:
✔ Pet bowls
✔ Plant saucers
✔ Buckets
✔ Toys
✔ Trash, recycling, and small containers

Dump and SCRUB pet bowls and other water-holding containers every 3 days to remove mosquito eggs before they hatch!

Don’t let mosquitoes crash the Memorial Day BBQ 🦟🌭

A day or two before the party, take a lap around the yard and dump out standing water hiding in pots, buckets, toys, and other small containers. That’s where mosquitoes like to lay their eggs.

Then on BBQ day, wear repellent so you’re serving hot dogs — not yourself.
