Summer riders, get ready!

The Iron County ATV / UTV trails will be opening for the season on May 14, 2026 at 7am. Trail 2 / 6 between Hoyt Road, WhiteCap, and Old 10 will remain closed until May 21st to allow further drying.

Watch for active logging on Trail 8 between Cramer Lake Road and Trail 17A. Remember, equipment and log trucks have the right of way!

Ride right, ride safe, and ride sober and enjoy the 2026 season in Iron County.

We understand that it isn’t snowmobile season anymore however we know a lot of members still enjoy the Iron County ATV/UTV trail system. Please see the following from WATVA.

Woah boy! If you’re seeing this image floating around social media, it’s fake and misleading.

While some counties may choose to close trails due to fire danger, those decisions are made locally on a county-by-county basis. It’s important to check official local sources before sharing posts like this online.

If you’re planning a ride, always check with the appropriate local, county, state, or federal agency before heading out.

Some trails are still closed due to spring thaw conditions. Others are already open.

For example, Burnett County currently states on its official website:

“We are currently in our spring fire season. During this time, all trails are closed due to the risk of fire, and many trails are too wet to support ATV/UTV traffic, causing excessive damage. If conditions allow, our Summer ATV/UTV Trail System will open the Friday before Memorial Day (May 22).”

That information comes directly from the county’s official .gov website.

There may absolutely be additional closures around the state, but not every county shown in orange on this graphic is closed. The best way to verify trail status is by checking official county sources directly.

Now let’s talk fire safety for a minute.

Lt. Jake Holsclaw, Off-Highway Vehicle Administrator and Conservation Warden with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, states:

“In most cases, trails are opened and closed based on seasonal recommendations by each county. Some counties may elect to close a trail based on fire conditions. In the event of an actual wildfire, emergency services may close a section of trail as well. Remember all ATVs and UTVs have to have USFS-approved spark arresters before operating on a trail or route.”

Happy National Volunteer Week! What we do isn’t possible without each and every single one of you.

This is National volunteers week!,
Don't forget to thank those who made our trails possible. Without the landowners, groomers, and club's, there are no trails.

What a season!
I just want to personally thank every single one of you who made this year one to remember.
We started the season with incredible enthusiasm and volunteerism, especially during our brushing efforts. That early energy set the tone — and we were going to need it.
Then came the Thanksgiving storm, which made nearly every trail impassable. At that point, we didn’t know what the rest of the season would look like. But this club showed exactly what it’s made of.
Through epic coordination and unmatched support from our members, we reopened every trail — one by one.
Our trails officially opened the first week of December, and as of today, we’re closing out the season. That gave us 15 full weeks of riding — something to be proud of, given all we faced.
Because of all of you, we didn’t just bounce back — we delivered. We supported tourism in our community and helped drive business to our amazing commercial sponsors.
We also had some fantastic highlights off the trails:
• Our first-ever golf outing was a huge success
• Winter Blast had one of the best turnouts I’ve seen, with the vintage show giving us a true flashback in time
• Our groomer team did an outstanding job all season, overcoming challenges and keeping trails in great shape
• And our snowmobile raffle wrapped up as one of our best yet
I also want to recognize the incredible support from our neighboring clubs — the Manitowish Waters Snow Skeeters, the White Thunder Riders, and clubs throughout the state who came up this winter to help us open our trail system. The support was astonishing, and I’m truly grateful for all their help.
It took a small army to accomplish what we did, and we couldn’t have done it without them. A big shoutout to the White Thunder Riders and the Manitowish Waters Snow Skeeters — they helped us tremendously, especially getting through some of our swamps early in the season, and the White Thunder Riders also stepped up to help recover a piece of equipment. Big kudos to them.
This season proved what I’ve always believed — this club is built on hardworking, passionate people who truly care.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for an incredible season. I’m proud to be part of this club and proud of what we accomplished together.
Let’s keep it rolling into next year.

A season finale.

Well, the end of a great 2025-2026 snowmobile season has arrived. The Iron County Snowmobile Trail system will close today for the season. Thank you to our clubs, Mercer Area Sno-goers and White Thunder Riders, and the groomer operators for doing what they do best and thank you to everyone that enjoyed the Iron County trails this winter.

New this spring, Trail 17 to Lazy Ace, Trail 77, and Trail 2 from Lakehead Road to Hwy 169 will remain open for ATV use. All other trails will remain closed until the typical mid-May opening. See the ATV map for trail detail.
