Over the past two weeks, our Junior Firefighters have accomplished a great deal. They participated in training focused on fireground operations and hose advancement drills, continuing to build the fundamental skills needed to become successful firefighters.

In addition to their regular training, they attended the Junior Fire Academy, where they represented our department with professionalism, dedication, and teamwork.

Several of our junior members returned home as recipients of the Fitzgerald Team Award, a reflection of their commitment to working together and supporting one another throughout the academy.

We would also like to extend special recognition to Carter Pine for earning the Robert Biesecker Leadership Award for Most Improved Cadet. This award is a testament to Carter’s hard work, determination, and growth throughout the academy. Congratulations to Carter and to all of our junior members on their outstanding accomplishments. We are proud of each of you and look forward to seeing your continued success.

Over the last two weeks, junior members have focused on fireground tactics, apparatus familiarization, and gear drills. Training included understanding basic fireground operations, crew assignments, communication, scene awareness, and apparatus functions. We also worked on locating and identifying equipment on each piece of apparatus, proper use of firefighting gear, and donning and doffing PPE efficiently.

Junior program is all about learning and getting experience, but every now and then you gotta have fun.

Tonight’s training focused on the SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus). We went over the different parts and components of the air pack, how to properly operate it, and the correct way to wear and use the equipment safely and efficiently.

Afterward, everyone participated in a conditioning walk while practicing air conservation techniques, emphasizing controlled breathing, staying calm under stress, and maximizing bottle time during emergency operations.

Training like this helps build confidence, endurance, and prepares us to operate more efficiently and safely on the fireground.
