City of Meriden, Kansas - City Hall City Meriden was established in 1872, with the current population of 817. Meriden is a City of the Third Class. The Jefferson West School District is USD #340.

It has a Mayor, a 5 Member Council Government, located within Jefferson County and part of Rock Creek Township. Meriden is located just 11 miles N.E. of Topeka. The close proximity makes for a very easy commute.

ATTENTION ALL MERIDEN RESIDENTS......Starting July 27, 2026 the speed limit within the residential area of the city limits will be 20mph. School zones will remain the same. The small portion of K4 is owned and operated by KDOT and will remain 45 mph.

Little update: due to the forecasted extreme heat index, trash pickup will be 2 hours earlier than usual on Wednesday. Please have you trash out the night before to ensure pickup.

We had an incident last week with trash pick up where someone had placed multiple gallons of motor oil in their trash container. MOST of this oil ended up on the street.

The following are UNACCEPTABLE items for the trash container:
* Electronics -TV,DVD/VCR's, computers, printers, monitors, etc.
* White goods-applicances, refrigerators, washers, dryers, AC units, dehumidifiers, etc.
* Vehicles batteries or tires
* Pesticides, herbicides, insecticides
* Industrial chemicals
* Waste petroleum products (used motor oil)
* Paint (unless dried or solidified)
* Asbestos
* Animal carcasses
* Ashes/burn barrels
* Dirt, concrete, cinder blocks, brick
* Large furniture (mattresses and couch)

ALL acceptable items must fit inside the trash container with lids closed.

Asphalt work is being done on Haines Drive, Maple Street, Frontier Court, Mustang Court, East Palmer, Basswood Court, Huffman, Owen Street and Railroad Street the week of May 11-15. Please refrain from parking on the street during working hours.
