Today, Assistant Chief Scarborough rode the district conducting a check of fire plugs (hydrants) throughout our response area. Each location was identified, verified, and recorded to help improve mapping accuracy and ensure quicker access during emergency response.

Several hydrants were found to be overgrown, and surrounding areas were noted so they can be cleared to maintain accessibility when needed most.

Latitude and longitude coordinates were also documented for each hydrant so they can be accurately marked on district maps, improving location tracking and overall response readiness.

We will continue to stay proactive in our district by routinely getting out, checking critical infrastructure, and making sure our resources are properly identified and ready when the call comes in.

I have received several notifications regarding smoky conditions in our area. According to the Mississippi Forestry Commission, there is an 80-acre controlled burn taking place in Jasper County. Due to current wind direction, smoke from this burn is drifting into our area, creating a noticeable haze.

There is no immediate threat to the public at this time. We will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as needed.
