At approximately 2100 hours, Lauderdale County E-911 dispatched Lost Gap Fire & Rescue to I-20 at the 128 MM eastbound for a reported possible 18-wheeler fire.

Upon arrival, the driver had already extinguished the fire. After further investigation, firefighters discovered the tractor-trailer had been operating with three flat trailer tires, all three off the rims, along with several other issues.

Lost Gap Fire & Rescue remained on scene until the arrival of the Mississippi Highway Patrol and MHP Commercial Traffic Enforcement Division (CTED). Following a lengthy inspection, the truck and driver were placed OUT OF SERVICE.

We appreciate the response and cooperation of all agencies on scene.

The vehicle was subsequently towed from the scene to Mr. Fuel by Simmons Wrecker Service.

Responding Agencies:

* Lost Gap Fire & Rescue
* Mississippi Highway Patrol
* MHP Commercial Traffic Enforcement Division (CTED)

Please remember to check your vehicle and trailer before getting on the road. A small mechanical issue can quickly become a serious safety hazard.

Last night and today, members of Lost Gap Fire & Rescue assisted South Fire & Rescue, LEMA and Lauderdale SO with the search for a missing elderly subject in the 4800 block of Arundel Road.

We are thankful to say this search had a great outcome. After an extensive search involving members from several county fire departments, local and state agencies, and other emergency response organizations, the missing man was located safe and transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.

This is a great example of what can happen when agencies put everything aside and come together as one team, with one mission, to bring someone home safely.

We are proud to have been a part of this effort and grateful to every firefighter, first responder, law enforcement officer, and agency who assisted throughout the search.

One team. One mission. One successful outcome.

PLEASE REFRAIN FROM OUTDOOR BURNING

With temperatures remaining extremely high and conditions dry, the risk of fires quickly getting out of control is increased.

We strongly encourage everyone to refrain from outdoor burning until conditions improve. A small fire can spread rapidly in these conditions and become a serious threat to homes, property, and surrounding areas.

If you do burn, never leave the fire unattended. Have plenty of water and the necessary tools readily available, and make sure the fire is completely extinguished before leaving.

Please help us keep our communities safe. When conditions are hot and dry, it’s simply not worth the risk.

National Volunteer Firefighters Day

Today, on National Volunteer Firefighters Day, I want to take a moment to recognize and thank every member of Lost Gap Fire & Rescue.

Being a volunteer firefighter means giving your time, energy, and sometimes putting yourself in harm’s way to help someone else. Our members answer the call, train, maintain our equipment, show up when their community needs them, and do it all because they care.

I’m proud to serve alongside each and every one of you. Thank you for your dedication, your sacrifice, and your commitment to Lost Gap Fire & Rescue and the community we serve.

Thank you to all of our volunteers. Your service matters, and it does not go unnoticed.

Thank You to Our County Supervisors

Today was an important day for the Lauderdale County Fire Service. Several departments from across the county filled the board room to make our voices heard regarding the proposed change in fire service insurance coverage.

After hearing from members of the fire service and considering the concerns that were brought forward, three of the five county supervisors voted to select VFIS as the insurance provider for the county fire service, rather than moving forward with the proposed Amynta/Meyer & Rosenbaum option.

I want to sincerely thank Supervisor Craig Houston, Supervisor Joe Norwood, and Supervisor Kyle Rutledge for taking the time to listen to the men and women who serve our communities and for taking our concerns seriously.

This insurance coverage matters to every firefighter who answers the call. We wanted to make sure the coverage selected was one that the members of the fire service had confidence in and felt was in the best interest of our firefighters and departments.

Today, departments from across Lauderdale County stood together, filled the board room, and made our voices heard.

Thank you, Supervisor Houston, Supervisor Norwood, and Supervisor Rutledge, for listening to the fire service and for supporting the coverage provider we felt was the right choice.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR TREASURER, MAGGIE ROBERTS!

From helping us get the equipment and supplies we need, answering calls for service, keeping things straight behind the scenes, and always being willing to step up and help wherever she’s needed, she truly goes above and beyond for Lost Gap Fire & Rescue.

She’s not just our Treasurer. She’s part of the family. She’s the one looking out for everybody, keeping us in line, and making sure we’re taken care of.
