Today is Memorial Day, and while this is the traditional start of the Summer Season, let us not ever forget what this day truly honors. Memorial Day is a day to remember the brave men and women of our armed forces who sacrificed their lives for our safety and security. So as we gather with friends and loved ones, please remember those who gave all so that we can celebrate this day.

Today is Peace Officer Memorial Day, the day set aside to remember the men and women of law enforcement who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of others, and to those seriously injured in that capacity. We are eternally grateful for each of them and what they did for us.

This year, President Trump gave the following proclamation, in part”:

“On this Peace Officers Memorial Day, observed during our Nation’s time-honored Police Week, we pay tribute to the men and women of law enforcement who have devoted their lives to safeguarding our families and communities. Our grateful country joins them in honoring the memory of the fallen officers who gave their lives protecting their fellow citizens, and we stand resolutely beside the families they left behind. We also recognize those who have been injured in the line of duty and the families who have stood faithfully by their side through hardship and recovery, and we pledge our steadfast support to those who continue to wear the badge.”

It is with extremely heavy hearts that we report our friend and colleague, Marty Golightly, passed away today from a medical emergency that occurred while he was at his home.

Marty Golightly is a member of our BCSO family and was serving as a Patrol Sergeant, while his wife, Brandi, serves as a dispatcher for us. Please keep him and his family in your prayers as we navigate this difficult time.

A law enforcement escort/procession for Marty Golightly is being conducted. It will travel from the hospital in Waco towards his final resting place in Bosque County by members of the law enforcement community.

We appreciate your support as we navigate this difficult time.

Over the weekend we had two contenders for the best, “You have to be kidding me” calls…

Contender one: An intoxicated man was reported to be at Allsups, said to have made his way behind the counter, took command of the griddle, and made breakfast sausage until Sheriff’s Deputies arrived. He was taken into custody for public intoxication.

Contender two: Deputies responded to a report of a male in front of complainants house, wearing only his underwear, and doing a Native American style chant. As deputies arrived, the man fled on foot but he was apprehended shortly thereafter. He was taken into custody on a charge of public intoxication and evading arrest.

While we post these to show a few of the funnier things we are called to deal with, we feel it is important to mention that being intoxicated while operating a motor vehicle or intoxicated in public place, where you are a danger to yourself or others, can have lasting, and unintended consequences. We can have a laugh at these because, fortunately, no one was harmed, but often that is not the case. Please, if you choose to drink, do so responsibly.
