We’re proud to see Lt. Col. Dustin “Pete” Eaves, commander of the Security Forces Squadron at the 186th Air Refueling Wing, featured in this story from the University of West Alabama.

From balancing college, firefighting and military service to rising through the ranks of the Mississippi Air National Guard, Lt. Col. Eaves’ journey is a great example of perseverance, leadership and the impact of strong support along the way.

Last month, personnel from the 248th Combat Airfield Operations Squadron (CAOS) RAWS work center conducted annual training at Camp Shelby’s Aux 1 Assault Airstrip.

The training focused on deploying and operating the AN/TRN-52 Deployable Instrument Landing System (D-ILS) Glide Slope, a system that provides vertical guidance to aircraft during an approach. The team successfully built, aligned and conducted ground checks on the system while strengthening their technical proficiency and demonstrating its capabilities in a Landing Zone environment.

The training event overall was successful, strengthening the team’s ability to deploy and operate the D-ILS system in support of real world aviation operations.

Our Wing is entering its next chapter as Col. Cynthia Smith relinquished command to Col. Robert Brady during a Change of Command ceremony. Assistant Adjutant General-Air of the Mississippi National Guard, Brig. Gen. Tommy Tillman, Jr. presided over the ceremony.

"Over the past few years, Col. Smith has led the wing through continuous deployments and domestic responses, and I thank her for her tireless dedication and exceptional leadership,' said Brig. Gen. Tillman. "Col. Brady brings a wealth of knowledge and operational experience, and I have absolute confidence in his ability to lead this wing to even greater heights."

While the 186th Air Refueling Wing hit the road for annual training last July, this year brought a shift in focus closer to home.

We kicked off the initial day with insights from a couple of key speakers before diving into our training. Executing annual training right here at Key Field allowed our Airmen to sharpen technical skills and maximize hands-on time with our own base assets. Beyond the hard work, it was a great opportunity to come together, enjoy some good food, and build unit morale.

No matter where the mission takes us or keeps us, readiness and camaraderie never stop.

✈️Proud to partner with the 172nd Airlift Wing! ✈️

Recently, our crew took to the skies in a KC-135 Stratotanker to conduct air-to-air refueling for their C-17 Globemaster III during the Employee Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) capabilities showcase. It was an honor to give Mississippi athletic coaches a front row seat to the precision teamwork that keeps our state and nation mission ready.
