At the Merkel Police Department, transparency matters.

We understand that social media has a global reach. Posts made for our local community can be viewed, shared, and commented on by people far beyond Merkel. While we respect that everyone may have opinions about public content, our focus will always remain where it belongs: serving the needs of our citizens and our community.

We are not a department that polices โ€œatโ€ our citizens. We police for our citizens.

Over the past few weeks, we have greatly appreciated the positive feedback from our local community, whether through social media comments, messages, or the personal contact our officers and staff have had with citizens throughout Merkel. That feedback matters. Your trust, your concerns, your questions, and your support help guide how we serve.

Our goal in using social media is simple: to educate, inform, engage, and listen. Social media gives us another way to provide helpful information, highlight community issues, explain city ordinances and public safety topics, and seek feedback that can assist our City Council and city government as they make decisions that impact Merkelโ€™s growth, quality of life, and future.

We also want to be transparent about our use of technology, including AI-assisted tools. As a department with limited resources, efficiency matters. When used safely, lawfully, and responsibly, AI can help us create educational content more quickly and consistently. That means less time spent designing posts and more time available for police work, community service, and the duties entrusted to us by our citizens.

Technology does not replace our officers, our staff, our judgment, or our responsibility to the public. It is simply a tool that, when used appropriately, helps us work smarter and serve better.

We will continue to be active on social media, continue seeking community feedback, and continue working every day to serve Merkel with professionalism, transparency, and commitment.

One Team. One Mission. One Merkel.

Pride in Community, Serving with Honor.

๐ŸšจUPDATE! May 27, 2026๐Ÿšจ
This warrant is no longer active and has been resolved with the Merkel Municipal Court.

๐Ÿšจ WARRANT WEDNESDAY ๐Ÿšจ

The Merkel Police Department is asking for the publicโ€™s assistance regarding Zoey Alexis Limon, who is currently wanted on a Municipal Court warrant.

These warrants often stem from municipal violations, including traffic-related offenses, unpaid fines, failure to appear, or failure to comply with court-ordered requirements. In many cases, warrants can be resolved without going to jail by simply contacting Merkel Municipal Court and taking the proper steps to clear the case. โœ…โš–๏ธ

Please note: payment totals may differ from the amount listed on the poster. In some cases, a subject may have already made partial payments but later defaulted on payment arrangements, failed to comply, or failed to communicate with the court โ€” resulting in the case moving into warrant status.

If you believe you may have an outstanding municipal warrant, we strongly encourage you to contact the court as soon as possible to discuss your options and work toward resolving the matter.

If you have information regarding the whereabouts of the subject featured in this post, please contact the Merkel Police Department. Do not attempt to apprehend this individual yourself. ๐Ÿš”

๐Ÿšฆ Talk About It Tuesday with Code Compliance & Enforcement Officer AJ ๐Ÿšฆ

This week, weโ€™re highlighting a new City of Merkel ordinance recently passed in response to concerns from numerous citizens regarding increased commercial vehicle traffic and disruptive engine braking noise within the city.

๐Ÿ“Œ New Ordinance Highlight:
Engine Braking Prohibited โ€” No Jake Braking Within City Limits

Ordinance No. 05-12-2026-2 amends Chapter 11, Traffic and Vehicles, and adds Section 11.01.001 โ€” Engine Braking Prohibited. This ordinance prohibits the use of engine braking, commonly known as โ€œjake braking,โ€ within the city limits when it creates noise beyond normal engine operation.

โœ… Emergency vehicles are exempt.
โœ… Emergency situations involving imminent danger of collision with property, persons, or animals are also exempt.
โœ… Violations may be charged as a Class C misdemeanor, with a fine up to $500 per offense.

This ordinance was requested by many citizens as part of an effort to address increased commercial vehicle traffic and protect the peace, safety, and quality of life within our community.

The goal of Talk About It Tuesday is education, transparency, and helping residents better understand City ordinances and how they apply within Merkel.
