CONGRATULATIONS, OFFICER TAMMY ALLRED!

The Merkel Police Department is proud to recognize Reserve Officer Tammy Allred, who was recently presented with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Federal Bureau of Investigation for her work going “above and beyond” the call of duty.

In her full-time role, Officer Allred serves as a State Special Investigator with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services Special Investigations Unit, where she works alongside and assists numerous law enforcement agencies throughout the region with specialized investigations involving crimes against children.

Tammy is also a valued member of the Merkel Police Department family, serving our community as a Reserve Police Officer. She brings a unique level of investigative experience, knowledge, and insight to our agency, particularly during complex and critical investigations involving children and vulnerable victims.

We are incredibly proud to have Officer Allred on our team and grateful for the professionalism, compassion, and dedication she brings to both our department and the agencies she assists throughout the region.

Please join us in congratulating Officer Tammy Allred on this well-deserved recognition!

Congratulations, Tammy! We are proud of you!

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
BACK TO SCHOOL, BACK TO SAFETY

We have completed our first two full weeks of school here in Badger Country. As students, families, and drivers settle into their new routines, the Merkel Police Department is sharing this reminder as part of our Back to School, Back to Safety campaign.

Please slow down in school zones, stop for school buses displaying flashing red lights, put away distractions, and remain alert near crosswalks and bus stops. A few extra seconds of patience can prevent a lifetime of regret.

Let’s continue working together to make this a safe and successful school year for every student.

Please note that all scenes depicting traffic accidents, emergency responses, or arrests in this video were staged solely for public service announcement purposes. They do not depict actual incidents or enforcement actions.

We sincerely thank our partners at the Merkel Volunteer Fire Department and Taylor County EMS for assisting with the production of this PSA. A special thank you also goes to our volunteer actors and role players who generously contributed their time to help share this important safety message.

MEET THE BADGER 2026

What a great night at Meet the Badger!

We always enjoy the opportunity to get out, visit with our families, students, staff, and community, and be part of the excitement that makes Badger Country such a special place.

Of course, Hayden was on scene making sure MPD had plenty of backup tonight. Based on the photos, we are pretty sure he was keeping a close eye on the Chief.

As always, MHS was LIT tonight! The energy, school spirit, and Badger pride were on full display.

If you weren’t there, you missed out!

We are proud to serve this community and even more proud to be part of Badger Country.

Community. Commitment. Courage.

Merkel Volunteer Fire Department’s volunteer firefighters and other area firefighters are hard at work this morning responding to an active structure fire north of Merkel.

The Merkel Police Department is proud to stand alongside our local volunteer firefighters by providing auxiliary support, water, and additional resources as they work through the heat and demanding conditions.

Please support our local volunteer firefighters as they answer the bell. These men and women give their time, energy, and service to protect our community when they are needed most.

We are grateful for their dedication, professionalism, and willingness to serve.

The Merkel Police Department is proud to be a partner of the red line.

YOUR VOICE. YOUR COMMUNITY. YOUR FUTURE.

The City of Merkel invites residents, business owners, and community stakeholders to attend an upcoming Town Hall Meeting focused on the future of our community. We want to hear your thoughts and have you help us plan for Merkel’s future.

During the first hour, attendees will participate in interactive stations where they can share ideas, priorities, and concerns regarding growth and development, housing, transportation, infrastructure, and other important topics. Your feedback will help guide Merkel’s new Comprehensive Plan and shape our community for years to come.

The second hour will focus entirely on Merkel’s water system. We will discuss why Merkel’s water rates are expensive, why many customers experience rust-colored water, low water pressure, and frequent water-line breaks, as well as the City’s plan to address these issues and what those improvements are expected to cost.

We look forward to an honest, respectful, and open dialogue as we plan Merkel’s future together. Whether you believe Merkel is headed in the right direction, see opportunities for improvement, or simply want to learn more about the decisions ahead, we encourage you to attend and participate.

Your perspective matters, and we want to hear your voice.

Today, we recognize and honor Juneteenth, a day that marks freedom, reflection, and the ongoing pursuit of justice.

On June 19, 1865, enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally received word of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth reminds us that freedom and justice are not just words from history, they are responsibilities we all share today.

For the Merkel Police Department, this day is also a reminder of our duty to serve every person in our community with fairness, dignity, respect, and accountability. Law enforcement must continue working to build trust, strengthen relationships, and ensure that every citizen feels heard, valued, and protected.

As a community, embracing Juneteenth means recognizing our shared history, learning from it, and moving forward together with purpose.

At Merkel PD, our commitment remains simple:

Doing what’s right. Doing it right now.

Today and every day, we stand committed to serving Merkel with honor, courage, and respect for all.
