Tomorrow, we observe Juneteenth, the day when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is both a celebration of freedom and a reminder that the promise of liberty has not always been realized equally or immediately for all Americans. Let us recognize the strength, perseverance, and contributions of Black Americans and recommit ourselves to building a more just and equitable future for all.

Congratulations to Dr. Georgina Aye, principal of Fairfax High School, on being named the 2026 Washington Post Principal of the Year!
