Are we reliving history? Seeing the footage of Alex Pretti and fellow protestors being attacked, and young children being taken by ICE agents, reminds me of the footage of police attacking the Childrens’ Crusade in Birmingham more than 60 years ago this May.

In the words of The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr from the Birmingham jail:

“We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly [...] Anyone who lives inside the United States can never be considered an outsider anywhere within its bounds."
