April is a busy month for prevention and awareness programs. During April, Hands & Words Are Not For Hurting® will focus on each of these (see flyer) to build greater awareness in our community.

Hello All!! I hope you have been able to maintain your physical and emotional health thus far throughout this COVID pandemic. Tomorrow we kick off Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month as well as our Race to Zero! April is dedicated to honoring and supporting our survivors, those we know about and those that we don’t, and continuing the awareness of this societal issue. The more we can continue the conversation around sexual assault the more likely we are to prevent it and reduce the rate in which it occurs.

If you are looking for a way to build and improve your physical and emotional health while adhering to the guidelines in place AND most importantly, be a part of our society that supports survivors and willing to be part of the solution I encourage you to participate in our virtual walk/run. You determine the date (between April 1-April 30), the time, the distance/route (2K or 5K)! Once accomplished post your photo on our page with

We will have swag bags and prizes for participants (and their furry friends) though method of distribution will be determined closer to the end of April when we know more about the continued concerns with COVID-19.

Sign up now and let the race begin!

Great meeting with Klamath County School District Superintendent, Glen Szymoniak - March 4, 2020.
Discovery and sharing of each other's programs highlighted ways Hands & Words Are Not For Hurting® compliments the district's program to empower students and prevent all types of bullying through personal responsibility.
Superintendent Szymoniak will be sending out a letter to all KCSD principals about our Purple Hands Project, including our contact information so principals can setup appointments for school presentations.
Special thanks to Superintendent Szymoniak for taking positive action that benefits students and parents. We look forward to working with KCSD staff and students.

*Purple Hands Pledge: "I Will Not Use My Hands Or My Words For Hurting Myself Or Others."®

PS: I stopped by the KCSD lobby where Klamath County Transition Program students operate JO2GO. It is always a special treat to see what the students are up to and say "Hi." Good job, KCTP!

Klamath County Commissioner Derrick DeGroot invites Klamath County and City schools to encourage students in reciting the Purple Hands Pledge daily, or at least weekly following the flag salute. The pledge is proven to reduce bullying, mean spirited teasing, and su***de.

Feb 20, 2020: Oregon State Youth Outreach Coordinator drove down from Salem, OR this morning to meet with Klamath Chapter Hands & Words Are Not For Hurting and discuss ways we can collaborate that will serve our military youth. We had a very positive meeting and identified several areas where we can support each other. There are opportunities to reach Oregon military youth statewide and possibly even nationally.
