On May 14, 2026, the men and women of the Merrillville Police Department took part in our annual department inspections. Officers proudly wore their Class A uniforms, representing the professionalism, discipline, and pride that define our department.

Annual inspections are more than just a tradition — they reflect our commitment to excellence, attention to detail, and the high standards we hold ourselves to while serving the community each and every day.

We are proud of the dedication shown by our officers and staff, and honored to continue serving the citizens of Merrillville with professionalism, integrity, and pride. 🇺🇸

Please join us in congratulating Officers Colin Arndt and Christopher Bartholomew on successfully completing their Field Training Program! 👮‍♂️👏

This is a significant milestone in their careers, marking the transition from training to full-time service. Both officers have demonstrated dedication, professionalism, and a strong commitment to the values of law enforcement throughout their training.

They will now be assigned to their respective crews and begin serving independently, helping protect and serve the Town of Merrillville with pride and integrity.

Merrillville Police Department – Weather Advisory

Severe weather is expected to impact Northwest Indiana this evening, Tuesday, March 10, 2026. The time to prepare is now…do not wait until the storm arrives.

If the storm causes power outages, please do not call 911 unless you are experiencing a true emergency. Power outages should be reported directly to NIPSCO by calling 1-800-464-7726 or by texting “OUT” to 444111.

Residents are encouraged to monitor weather conditions using a NOAA weather radio or reliable weather app. Please do not rely solely on outdoor warning sirens. These sirens are designed to alert people who are outside, and you may not hear them from inside your home.

Again, only call 911 for emergencies. First responders will already be handling storm related incidents and need to remain available for urgent situations.

If you require emergency shelter due to dangerous conditions, contact 911 and arrangements will be made. For your safety, do not leave your home or workplace while the storm is in progress unless absolutely necessary.

Please stay alert, stay prepared, and stay safe.
