What a beautiful day for some line work! If you haven’t yet, try to get outside on this stellar day. The linemen are out this morning transferring lines from the old pole to the new pole in preparation to pull the old pole. Good times! Where o’where might they be on this fine day?

Merrimac light is proud to announce its receipt of a certificate of excellence in reliability from the American Public Power Association for 2025, with its performance substantially exceeding the five-year average of the top quartile for reliable electric service among all U.S. electric utilities. Pictured below is Lineman Apprentice Isaac Beem with the certificate which hangs in our office.

It was a busy day at MMLD when a baby cat bird fell from its nest and landed in our parking lot. Fortunately we scooped it right up and put it in a little basket and attached it to a tree all while Momma cat bird was watching and squalking at us. I peaked out back several times to make sure she knew baby was in there a she continued to feed him but never saw her actually go near the basket… she was all around it. Well, thankfully tonight I stopped by and there was Momma perched on the edge of the basket feeding her baby. My heart is so happy! A HUGE thank you to Bonnie Buckley (who just happened to pull up to our drive thru when all of this was happening, she guided us through getting baby to safety).

To commemorate Line Worker Appreciation Day, MMLD acquired several children's books to donate to Merrimac Schools, the Library, and as a gift to our linemen. Our General Manager, Mary, recently had the opportunity to read the book to the kindergarten classes at Sweetsir School. Everyone had a great time.

Our linemen have had a remarkably busy day, dealing with outages and branches on wires, and they've been working continuously. A few weeks of our linemen are providing mutual aid to Georgetown Municipal Light to ensure superior reliability.
