Just in time for our Halloween Eve ghost hunt… (are you coming???) 😏

Haunted house story time 👻😳🫣

Last night Shawn and Sarah were in the living room watching a movie. They paused around 10pm to go to the kitchen and noticed our cat Figaro acting really strange, arching his back and backing away like something was scaring him.

When Sarah came back towards the living room, she stopped in front of the basement door (directly next to our living room) to tell Shawn about Figaro’s weird reaction.

She was stopped about 2 to 3 feet in front of the basement door which was cracked open about an inch but held in place by a cast iron door stop (it’s always like this.)

Suddenly it sounded as if someone was pounding loudly on the door from the other side, causing it to rattle and bang into the cast iron about 5 or 6 times, right in front of her very eyes. Shawn was just out of view of the door but heard the entire thing and saw her terrified reaction.

After that, Figaro ran madly around the house with zoomies (which happens pretty regularly, but we can’t help but believe he saw something.) Anyways, of all the things that have happened in this house, this one was by far the scariest yet.

And if you’re wondering… yes we tried debunking this by jumping on all floorboards and moving around, even though I was standing fairly still. And you would think if something natural caused the door to shake violently that it would have happened before this in the last year and some change that we’ve lived here.

There’s no place like home 🍂

Life at the Longa House lately…

We had the loft flooring redone and will be creating an extra cozy space for guests to stay 🛌✨

Our kitchen remodel is so close to completion! We are awaiting a brand new custom window for above the kitchen sink. The perfect place to do dishes and watch the sun set. After the custom window is in, we will finish up the tile work as well 🪟🧽

Summer is over and fall is in full swing! To prepare for winter, we need to level out the driveway. Dirt driveways are adorable but they love getting icy! ❄️🕯️

Business plans are developing to host wellness retreats in the near future. We are looking into developing one or two cabins out back to host up to 12 people at a time. This is a huge project, one that we care very deeply about. More to come on that soon! 🧘🏽🪴

Built in 1775, the Longa House stands as one of the oldest homes in New Hampshire - constructed one year before our country was even founded. It was originally built for a man named Jake Longa, a German mercenary captured during the Revolutionary War who chose to stay and build a new life in America.

For more than two centuries, this home quietly passed through generations, with no deed records between 1775 and the 1990s - suggesting it likely remained in the same family’s hands for over 200 years. The Longa House has weathered history, held countless stories, and carries a palpable sense of time that you can feel the moment you step inside.

In September 2024, the home found its newest caretaker: Vicki Bentley - a 30-year-old personal coach and business mentor whose work centers on healing, authenticity, and spiritual alignment. Vicki, her partner Sebastian, and her twin sister Sarah now call this historic home their sanctuary.

Since moving in, Vicki has lovingly restored key areas of the home - fortifying the basement, and giving the main bathroom and kitchen a soulful refresh. Out went the mid-century quick fixes; in came warm, timeless charm that honors the home’s colonial roots. At the heart of it all is the home’s impressive central chimney, boasting three fireplaces that have been warming hearts and hands for 250 years.

But the story doesn’t end there. The property’s two acres will soon welcome a private guest house - a serene retreat space designed for intimate, soul-restoring stays. Guests will be invited to unwind, reconnect, and explore offerings like reiki, sound healing, breathwork, meditation, and energy alignment - all set against the peaceful, grounded energy that makes the Longa House so special.

And for those who dare to explore the other side… the Longa House will also host paranormal investigations in the main house. Both Vicki and Sarah have been part of the professional paranormal world for over a decade, with experience that includes working at the famous Conjuring House in Rhode Island. Their passion for uncovering the unseen - paired with deep respect for the home’s spirit and history - creates an atmosphere that is equal parts fascinating, reverent, and unforgettable.
