KSC Prototype Lab

KSC Prototype Lab This is the Prototype Development Branch at NASA's Kennedy Space Center.

The Prototype Development Laboratory performs quick-turnaround prototype development hardware fabrication and modifications of ground support equipment, flight hardware, test articles and test support equipment. The lab supports most of the research and development, materials science and failure analyses laboratories at KSC as well as all of the major programs and projects in development. The labo

ratory responds quickly to failures that occur during launch vehicle or payload processing operations or development projects, with effective and timely design solutions, often for one-of-a-kind problems. Laboratory personnel are highly skilled engineers and technicians trained in the latest computer-aided design tools and manufacturing processes. Together, laboratory designers and technicians provide a valuable resource for consulting or mentoring other design groups in the art of manufacturing engineering. The lab also provides an interface between designers and manufacturing vendors to help customers avoid mistakes that would lead to costly contract change orders and schedule slips.
