On May 3rd Merritt Island Volunteer Fire Department participated in a Vehicle Extrication demo for the Back Brevard Hero’s Hero Fest. It was a great opportunity to show the public the skills and answer lots of questions about what we do and how we serve the community. Thank you to all that attended.

It’s going to be cold 🥶 tonight. Remember, to be safe and smart about where you put electric space heaters so you don’t cause a fire 🔥 in your home and never 👎 plug in electric space heaters into extension cords!

It appears that we will have effects here in our area from the tropical storm. It may be a good time to get things prepared ahead of time.

We will begin to see impacts on our coastlines starting off tomorrow in the afternoon and lasting until the early morning hours on Monday.

We are keeping an eye on this storm as it develops. Don’t wait until the late minute to ensure you are prepared.

Thursday overnight 00z spaghetti models for Invest 94 on tropicaltidbits.com. Getting a little tighter, which sometimes means confidence. Timestamps marked on each line. If it heads to the Carolinas timing would be Mon/Tue. Still seeing that slowdown trend. Could linger a little longer meaning rains to watch for. EURO/GFS showing some bigger numbers in spots wherever exact track goes. www.spaghettimodels.com

One of the many traditions Merritt Island High School does for homecoming week is the parade and bonfire. MIVFD was proud and honored to be able support these events yet again. FF/PM Don Flammio took the reins of building the bonfire again this year with the goal of making the flames climb higher and higher each year.

Of course safety is our first concern so we have an appropriate clear area around the burn and our engine and brush truck stood by for suppression if needed.

Another great event and a fun time had by all.
