Dolly Parton will always have a special place at the Mesa Public Library. 🫶

Her father was the inspiration behind her worldwide Imagination Library, a program that gives a book a month to millions of kids every year.

"He was the smartest man I have ever known but I know in my heart his inability to read probably kept him from fulfilling all of his dreams," she said on her Imagine Library website.

Her legacy lives on at the Mesa Public Library and in the success of all the young readers whose literacy she helped foster. 🦋

Join us as we pack hands-on STEM kits for MesaMoves at the Transportation Department! Each kit will contain the materials students need to build a light-up pedestrian signal lights bringing STEM learning to life while teaching an important lesson about pedestrian and crosswalk safety. Your time packing these kits will help equip students in schools and libraries with the tools to learn, create, and stay safe. The kits are in alignment with Mesa Public Schools 4th grade curriculum. Come make a difference, one kit at a time!

Ever wonder what happens behind the scenes to help protect Mesa’s wastewater system?

Our Industrial Pretreatment team plays an important role in keeping Mesa’s sewer system, wastewater treatment facilities, and environment protected every day.

From visiting local businesses and industrial facilities to collecting wastewater samples, conducting inspections, and monitoring what enters the sewer system, the team works to make sure discharges meet requirements before they ever reach a treatment facility.

Their day can also include reviewing plans for new construction, conducting flow studies, working with businesses on compliance and education, and coordinating with surrounding communities to help keep the region’s wastewater infrastructure operating safely and efficiently.

There’s a lot that happens beneath our streets that most people never see. Take a look at a day in the life of Mesa’s Industrial Pretreatment team and learn more about the work that helps keep our wastewater system running smoothly.

While summer is soon coming to a close, the temps are still high. It is important to work and play safe in the heat.

Whether you're working outdoors, exercising, tackling yard projects, or enjoying time with family, Arizona's extreme heat can quickly become dangerous. A little preparation can go a long way toward preventing heat-related illness.

Remember these four heat safety essentials:

💧 Hydrate Frequently
Drink water often and don't wait until you're thirsty.

🌳 Take Shade Breaks
Rest in the shade regularly and give your body time to cool down.

🕒 Avoid Peak Heat Hours
Whenever possible, schedule outdoor activities during the early morning or evening hours. Limit physical activity from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

🛑 Watch for Heat Illness
Dizziness, nausea, confusion, heavy sweating, or weakness may be signs of heat-related illness. Move to a cool place immediately and seek medical attention if symptoms worsen.
