We invite you to be a part of a Native Community Health Talking Circle, a sacred space designed for sharing, healing, and connection within our community.
What is a Talking Circle?
A Talking Circle is a traditional gathering rooted in Indigenous practices, where community members come together to share personal experiences and emotions. It’s a respectful environment that encourages healing from trauma and fosters mental well-being.
Key Elements of the Talking Circle:
- Healing & Support: Focuses on mental and emotional health, addressing issues like domestic violence recovery, addiction recovery, grief, and chronic disease support (e.g., diabetes).
- Structure: Participants sit in a circle, promoting equality. A talking piece, such as a feather or stone, is passed around, granting the holder the only right to speak.
- Cultural Tradition: This oral tradition encourages deep listening.
- Purpose: To build community, pass on knowledge, and create a safe space for discussing challenging topics.
Whether you’re seeking support or want to lend an ear, this is an opportunity to connect with others and foster healing.
