Mesquite Fire Department Wildland Team remains deployed to the Ross Fire in North Texas.
The fire has burned nearly 90,000 acres and is currently 31% contained. Both of our engines and all eight personnel continue working day and night in extreme heat and tough weather, including a recent flare-up off Highway 16.

Our crews are holding the line.

Mesquite Fire Department personnel are on the ground supporting the Ross Fire response in Palo Pinto and Jack counties.

Ten of our firefighters and two engines have been deployed through mutual aid to assist local and state crews as they work to contain this large, fast-moving wildfire. The Ross Fire has burned tens of thousands of acres since Monday and remains an active incident.

Our members are focused on structure protection and supporting the unified command effort alongside Texas A&M Forest Service, TIFMAS resources, and neighboring departments.

Mesquite FD remains staffed and the city is fully covered. Thank you to the crews who answered the call and to the families supporting them while they are away.

Please keep all responders and affected residents in your thoughts.

Our team has been out in the field assisting with severe flooding and storms impacting communities across Texas. We’re especially thinking of Kerr County, which has been hit hard for the second year in a row by heavy rains and devastating floods along the Guadalupe River.

Today, even in the Texas heat, the crew at Station 2 put in the hard work to stay sharp on vehicle extrication training. 🚒

Vehicle extrications are complex, high-stakes operations that demand careful planning, precise coordination, and constant awareness to protect both the patient and our first responders.

Using hydraulic tools like the spreaders, cutters, and ram, crews practice removing the vehicle from around the patient in a controlled, almost surgical way. It’s physically demanding work that requires hours of hands-on training to master.

Our firefighters train like their next call depends on it — because it does. 💪

Watch for symptoms of both heat exhaustion and heat stroke and act accordingly without delay.

Extreme heat is the deadliest weather hazard in the U.S..
Take it seriously, know the difference between heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

🥵 Heat Exhaustion: Heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea
🚨 Heat Stroke: High body temperature, confusion, loss of consciousness

Prevention is key: Stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak heat, and protect the most vulnerable (pets, kids and elderly).
