Families of children and youth with disabilities are concerned about the upcoming school year. Nevada Legal Services and Nevada PEP are collaborating to provide families with information on Individualized Education Programs (IEP) and the delivery of special education services. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn how parents can work with schools to determine the special education, supports and services that will be provided so students with disabilities are able to make progress during this pandemic.

Bench Warrant Resolution Day.
A major objective of the event is to reduce the number of outstanding traffic and non-violent misdemeanor warrants in the city and eliminate the fear of being arrested for having failed to appear in court.

The 2020 Census Response Rate Challenge against the City of Fernley is in full swing, and right now they are in the lead: Fernley 67.5%, Mesquite 66.9%. There are several mini challenge contests planned throughout the duration of the Census, and the winning City at the end (Oct. 31) will be presented with the keys to the losing City. The first challenge contest deadline is Fourth of July. The Mayor of the city that is behind as of that date will have to wear the leading City’s t-shirt to the next city council meeting.

Even though we will enjoy a friendly competition between Fernley and Mesquite, the overall goal is to increase Census response rates in both areas, and support our state-wide response overall. The Census is vitally important for both our local and state economic recovery during this difficult time. The final count will determine our funding for the next decade, so it is crucial that we get as close to 100% response as possible. Filling out your 2020 Census questionnaire is something fast and easy that every single household can do to directly improve our ability to overcome the economic hardship our community is facing due to the COVID crisis.

If you haven’t responded yet, please come to the Census Response Saturday event this upcoming Sat. 6/27 from 11am-2pm at the Mesquite Senior Center (see attached flyer). There will be free hamburgers and hot dogs, and will have computers set up for you to do the Census online. Assistance will be available in English and Spanish. It is recommended that you bring any mailing you have received from the Census (letter, reminder postcard, or paper questionnaire). If you don’t have any of those mailings, you can still respond without it. The first 50 households to actually complete the questionnaire at the event will receive a “Mesquite Means Home” t-shirt (1 shirt per household, sizes available while supplies last). This is the shirt we want to see Fernley’s Mayor wearing after Mesquite wins the first challenge contest on the Fourth of July!
