Power has been restored at the Avondale Library after this morning's violent storms. Residents who need an air-conditioned space and free WiFi in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Arthur are encouraged to drop in till closing time at 6 pm on Thursday, June 18. The library, along with all others in Jefferson Parish, will be closed on Friday, June 19, for the Juneteenth holiday.

The Jefferson Parish Library will hold its annual Spelling Bee for Adults on Thursday, June 25, 7 pm, at the East Bank Regional Library (4747 W. Napoleon in Metairie). Adults 18 years of age and older may participate in the contest. Registration is not required. Participants should simply arrive prior to the starting time to participate. The purpose of the Adult Spelling Bee is to promote good spelling and good spelling habits, expand vocabulary and encourage accurate word usage and pronunciation. Individual competitors are eliminated as they fail to spell a given word correctly.

The Memory Café at Avondale tomorrow, June 18 at 10:30 a.m., is canceled. The Memory Café, a welcoming social event for adults to stay engaged and active—including those experiencing memory changes and their care partners—will resume in August. Last week at the Jefferson Parish Library, multiple branches hosted Summer Reading Challenge entertainment events including Chatty the Mime, The NOLA Magician and a Community Gardening class.

🤡 East Bank Regional Library's Children's department hosted Chatty the Mime who brought laughter, joy and entertainment to a full house of young patrons!

🪄 River Ridge Library hosted The NOLA Magician who kept both young and old patrons spellbound with his magical wonder. Even the magician's bunny was amazed to see how many people the magician made appear in the small room!

🍅 Terrytown Library hosted their weekly Community Gardening class. The guest speaker taught young farmers how to prepare soil to plant seeds. The young farmers then harvested fresh carrots and potatoes from the raised garden beds they had seeded weeks before.
