Today, Thursday, May 14, 2026, Chief McNamara and Captain James Moore proudly spearheaded the annual Police Officer Memorial Service on behalf of the men and women of the Police Department during Police Memorial Week.

During this solemn and meaningful ceremony, we honored the memory of all deceased members of the Methuen Police Department, as well as the brave law enforcement officers throughout our nation who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their courage, dedication, and commitment to protecting others will never be forgotten.

As part of a newer tradition that has quickly become a valued part of this annual service, Chief McNamara also recognized and celebrated this year’s Methuen Police Department retirees: Lt. James Gunter, Sgt. Derek Licata, and Officer Aaron Little.

Each of these men leaves behind a legacy of honorable service, professionalism, leadership, and unwavering dedication to the Methuen community. Their careers have been marked by countless accomplishments, strong character, and a commitment to serving others with integrity and pride.

We extend our sincere gratitude for their years of service and wisdom, and we wish Lt. Gunter, Sgt. Licata, and Officer Little many years of happiness, health, and fulfillment in retirement.

This week, the Police Department joins agencies across the country in observing National Police Week 2026.

This is a time of profound reflection for our department and the entire law enforcement community. We stand together to honor the memory of the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness serve as a lasting inspiration to us all as we continue to serve and protect the Methuen community.

As we look upon the National Police Week logo, we are reminded of our solemn commitment: Respect. Honor. Remember.

We invite our residents, friends, and followers to join us this week in remembering the fallen and expressing gratitude for those who continue to serve with integrity and valor.

Rusty has been found and is now safe and back home with his family 🐾

We have amazing news to share. We were just told that Rusty was found and now safe and back home with his family.

Rusty is still missing from the Tyler Street/Myrtle Street area. He is not familiar with the area and is in flight mode.

He is so panicked he wont go to anyone, not even his owner.

We are asking anyone who sees Rusty to completely ignore him and call the number below. Please do not call out to him or approach as he will bolt and we do not want to push him further away.

He's was last seen on the Dracut Methuen line. We are with holding the exact address as we dont want anyone trying to catch him. A feeding station is going to be set up to see if he keeps coming back.

If he keeps coming back then we can set a trap.

Please call the phone number below to report any sightings.
