The House is currently debating the state operating budget on the House Floor. The House Majority is using funding for Alaska's public schools as a political pawn to dip into our state savings. They are jeopardizing the future of Alaska's children. This behavior is unacceptable.

You have probably heard that the Governor has proposed legislation that is bad for students and is an unfortunate distraction from the serious policy debate in the Capitol related to the BSA and the effort to restore a pension.

We need allies to speak up and fight back.
Members of the House Education Committee would like to hear from the public, especially in person, TONIGHT at 5:15 pm Thursday, March 30th.

The hearing will be held in the Education Committee Room, room 106 in the State Capitol.

Today, HB 220, sponsored by Rep. Grier Hopkins, was passed by the House Finance Committee on a 6-2 vote. NEA-Alaska would like to thank the following 6 members of House Finance for their votes to advance this bill: Representative Neal W. Foster (Nome), Representative Kelly Merrick (Eagle River), Rep Dan Ortiz (Ketchikan), Rep. Adam Wool, Fairbanks District 5, Rep. Bryce Edgmon (Dillingham), and Representative Andy Josephson (Anchorage).

Thanks to all of you who have written emails, called to testify, and helped get us to this momentous day. This is a huge step forward in the process to restore a real and fair retirement for Alaska's educators! 🥳
