Congratulations to the winners of tonight’s races. A big congrats to Lisa Smith, our new treasurer and Heather Lierheimer, our new clerk. Also, congratulations to our county leaders who ran unopposed.

What I am most proud of is the clean races our county candidates ran throughout their campaigns. Each one focused on their strengths and what they brought to the table. That is very rare and I find it quite admirable.

To the candidates who did not win: You have amazing courage to put yourself out there, a passion to serve, and I am proud of all of you!

As a farm kid, I was always told that if you don’t have a seat at the table, you are probably on the menu.

Throughout my terms as Commissioner, I have strived to place our county’s foundation and background at the table in both Jefferson City and DC. This will allow me to persuade and guide policies that affect rural America, the environment and .

I am so excited to get started!

This afternoon, I was asked to present our program to the membership of the Action Caucus. It was an honor to showcase the work our advisors, chapters, and membership accomplish each school year.

This year, I wrote and sponsored two resolutions. The first, tackles high input costs for and the second advocates for higher pricing and focusing on factors that can help like opening new trade markets, accurate reporting, and examining the “big three” system. I am happy to say both passed! The final step is for the entire membership body to adopt the resolutions at the business meeting on Tuesday.

It’s almost here!

I am thrilled to announce that is featured in a chapter of Results for America’s new book, “Do What Works: Smarter Government, Better Results.” This book features chapters from governors, congress members, White House policy staff, local government officials, and not-for-profit leaders.

It highlights the real progress bipartisan leaders are making to build more efficient and effective governments that improve the lives of the people they serve. Our chapter focuses on the amazing work that the of Commerce and the program addresses along with its fabulous Director Darlene Shopher and of course, Dana Keller! Six Mexico businesses have signed on to participate and utilize these proven strategies to stabilize the workforce, increase employee morale, and establish outside-of-the-box solutions for issues that would have impacted the long-term employment opportunities for those living in daily instability. Dana and Darlene deserve big applause for this program!!

For public safety reasons, the building needed to come down. The rest are slated for demo later this summer and currently going through abatement. We are still evaluating options for future uses of the property.

Structural concerns forced Audrain County to expedite the demolition of the former Picton Furniture building. The demolition of 117 E. Monroe St., a property owned by the county, started …
