Spring is here, and in Missouri, that means preparing for severe weather. 🌪️ Over the last decade, our state has faced dozens of major climate disasters, and this year is expected to be warmer and wetter than usual.

Do you know the difference between a Watch and a Warning? A Watch means stay alert, but a Warning means take action immediately!

Check your prep list:
✅ Does your disaster kit have fresh batteries and a weather radio?
✅ Do you have a small amount of cash on hand in case the power goes out?
✅ Do you have a family plan for where to go when warnings are issued?

Stay safe this season—remember: If thunder roars, go indoors! ⛈️

Thunderstorms are expected to develop along a front over northern Missouri and west central Illinois late Tuesday afternoon and evening. Large hail, damaging winds, and a few tornadoes will be possible with the strongest storms. The storms are expected to weaken as cold front moves southeast across the area during the night into Wednesday morning, but some areas will see locally heavy rainfall.

Tornadoes can form quickly and move fast across Missouri.

Today’s action steps:
✔ Identify your safe place (basement or interior room, lowest floor)
✔ Practice a 2-minute family drill
✔ Prepare an emergency kit
✔ Review your business shelter plan

If a warning is issued, act immediately. Outdoor sirens are not designed to alert you indoors.

Where is your safe place? Comment: Basement / Interior Room / Storm Shelter.

The National Weather Service has cancelled the statewide scheduled tornado drill planned for today, March 4, 2026, due to inclement weather conditions impacting the region.

Safety remains the top priority. Given current weather risks, conducting the drill could create confusion or divert attention from real-time weather monitoring and response activities.

Residents, schools, businesses, and partner agencies are encouraged to continue reviewing severe weather safety plans and ensure notification systems are operational. Additional opportunities to exercise tornado response procedures will be communicated if rescheduled.

Continue to monitor official weather sources and local emergency management channels for updates.
