*** FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ***

On 8/21/2026 at approximately 2053 hours the Summit Township Police were called to a residence when a homeowner discovered a small grey sedan on their property.

Upon arrival contact was made with the occupants who seemed to be experiencing a medical condition, were severely disoriented, confused, and unable to make sense of their story. Both occupants were elderly, 80 & 83 years of age.

After requesting EMS. It was then determined that both persons were listed as MISSING/ENDANGERED out of Maryland.

The couple had been away from home since 8/20/2026 when they left for an appointment in Pittsburgh, somewhere along the way, they became disoriented, confused, dehydrated, and traveled from Pittsburgh area, through western parts of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, and eventually into Summit Township where they were located by our department. During this time their family had no contact with them or no idea where they were.

A significant amount of time had passed, well over 40 hours, without proper medications and or proper medical care essential to both individuals.

Both Meyersdale and Berlin EMS treated both individuals
Later that evening, they were reconnected with their family who had been extremely worried about their whereabouts.

We strongly appreciate the community for their calls which prompted our response and helped us locate these missing individuals.

The Pennsylvania State Police Troop A- Somerset Barracks is investigating an Attempted Burglary that occurred at Tailgatez,1640 N Center Ave., and a Burglary that occurred at
Somerset Gourmet Buffet, 1534 N Center Ave Somerset Township, Somerset County.

These crimes occurred on 08/09/2026 between the hours of 2:00am-4:00am.

The pictured suspect is seen using a oxy-acetylene torch to enter the property.

* Flash Flood Warning for...
Southwestern Somerset County in south central Pennsylvania...

* Until 415 AM EDT.

* At 114 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain
have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches are
possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected
to begin shortly.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Meyersdale, Ursina, New Centerville, Mount Davis, Rockwood,
Confluence, Salisbury, Garrett, Addison, Wellersburg, Casselman,
Callimont and Seven Springs.
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

It’s fair time again!
In an effort to continue to increase pedestrian safety, prevent blind spots, and reduce the potential risk of crashes or incidents involving pedestrians coming to and from the fairgrounds during fair week. The Summit Township Police will be STRICTLY ENFORCING a posted NO PARKING segment of Mt. Davis Road for the duration of the fair, as well as 1 week prior, and 1 week after.

We would like to thank everyone for not parking in the marked area during the 2025 fair as it kept the area far less cluttered and safer for pedestrian traffic, Only 2 parking violations occurred last year.

As a reminder
Any vehicles parked in this area will receive a $25 fine.
A secondary offense will result in a subsequent fine of $50.
A third offense will result in the vehicle being towed at the owner's expense.

Please keep in mind that this portion of the roadway is still considered a PENNDOT Right-of-Way.

Summit Township Police Department just made history.

Thanks to the fast action of their leadership, they are the first police department in Pennsylvania to partner with The Drozdowski Group and bring real financial wellness support to their officers.

Most departments talk about officer wellness. Very few actually put money, time, and leadership behind the financial side of it — the stress that follows cops home, the debt that builds up after years of overtime and shift work, and the quiet pressure that never shows up on a fitness test.

Summit Township’s leadership saw it, moved on it, and got it done. That kind of speed and priority says a lot about the culture they’re building.
