On 8/21/2026 at approximately 2053 hours the Summit Township Police were called to a residence when a homeowner discovered a small grey sedan on their property.
Upon arrival contact was made with the occupants who seemed to be experiencing a medical condition, were severely disoriented, confused, and unable to make sense of their story. Both occupants were elderly, 80 & 83 years of age.
After requesting EMS. It was then determined that both persons were listed as MISSING/ENDANGERED out of Maryland.
The couple had been away from home since 8/20/2026 when they left for an appointment in Pittsburgh, somewhere along the way, they became disoriented, confused, dehydrated, and traveled from Pittsburgh area, through western parts of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, and eventually into Summit Township where they were located by our department. During this time their family had no contact with them or no idea where they were.
A significant amount of time had passed, well over 40 hours, without proper medications and or proper medical care essential to both individuals.
Both Meyersdale and Berlin EMS treated both individuals
Later that evening, they were reconnected with their family who had been extremely worried about their whereabouts.
We strongly appreciate the community for their calls which prompted our response and helped us locate these missing individuals.
