This Coming Week at the Community Center

Don't forget. Tuesday (8/25) is our final Perk Up Tuesdays from 7 to 10 a.m. at the community center. We've enjoyed having many of you pop in for a cup of coffee and conversation over the last two months, and it's been great getting to know more people in our community. We hope you'll join us for our final one!

And, our Book Club meets Thursday (8/27) at 2 p.m. You've still got a week to swing by the library to pick up copies of the books and read them so come join us.
A big thank you to everyone who came out for our rock painting event. While we weren't able to get pics of all the painted rocks, here are a few. We had such a great time getting creative together. A special thank you to Christine for facilitating the session and generously donating all the materials! We appreciate you!

Be sure to check out our page for upcoming events. We are finalizing the schedule for the rest of the year so stay tuned!

Hello Mi-Wuk Sugar Pine residents,

It is with mixed emotions that I officially announce my resignation as your Fire Chief. While many of you have already heard the news, I wanted to personally share it with the community that has meant so much to me.

I have accepted an opportunity to return to a department where I previously worked. This wasn’t an easy decision. Mi-Wuk Sugar Pine has truly become home to me, and you simply can’t beat the beauty of this community or the incredible people we have the privilege to serve.

Serving as your Fire Chief has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. Watching members grow into outstanding firefighters, seeing careers take off, and helping shape the department into what it is today has been an honor. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together.

As much as I’ve enjoyed leading the department, I’ve realized that I miss being out in the field. I wanted to get back to the hands-on side of the fire service and spend more time serving on the front lines and a little less behind a desk. It simply felt like the right time for a new chapter.

This isn’t goodbye just yet. I will remain on as your part-time Fire Chief while we recruit and hire the next qualified Chief. During this transition, I’ll also be assisting the hiring committee to help ensure the department continues moving forward. With the outstanding leadership of our Assistant Chief, Station Captain, and dedicated firefighters, I have complete confidence that the department will continue providing the excellent service this community deserves.

I also hope to remain involved as a volunteer Chief in some capacity because this community will always be special to me.

To our Board of Directors, our firefighters, our volunteers, our staff, and every member of this community—thank you. Your support, encouragement, and commitment to your fire department have made this one of the best places I’ve ever had the privilege to serve.

I hope you’ll welcome the next Fire Chief with the same kindness and support you’ve shown me. They’ll be inheriting an outstanding department and an incredible community.

I’ll miss seeing so many familiar faces around the station, but this isn’t really goodbye. You’ll still see me around the community—just in a different role.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for allowing me the honor of serving as your Fire Chief. It has truly been a privilege.

— Chief James Klyn

You asked for more craft events...and we're excited to deliver!

Many of you have told us you'd love to see more hands-on, creative activities at the Community Center. We're listening—and this is just the beginning! Join us for Color Our World, One Rock at a Time, a FREE community rock painting event that's all about creativity, community, and fun!

Saturday, August 15, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Whether you're an experienced artist or you've never painted a rock before, everyone is welcome! Christine will guide participants as we transform ordinary rocks into colorful works of art that can brighten a garden, decorate your home, or become a surprise gift for someone who needs a smile.

All materials will be provided. Participants must be at least 10 years of age, and the maximum size of the class will be 10 people so don’t wait to sign up! You must register for this class to attend it!

Please RSVP by August 8, 2026.
Simply scan the QR code on the flyer or email [email protected] to reserve your spot.

We're excited to offer more opportunities to learn, create, and connect with one another. If this event is well attended, we'll continue bringing more craft and creative programs to our community!

Come help us color our world, one rock at a time!

We want this to be YOUR community center. As such, we recently sent a survey, asking for your input on what you want from the community center. We hope you’ll complete the survey and send it back. Or, if you prefer, you can take the survey using this link Mi Wuk Area Homeowners Alliance (MAHA) Survey . Our plan is to share the results of the survey with you at a later date.

And, don’t forget to join us for Perk Up Tuesdays on 7/21 from
7 to 10 a.m. Hope to see you there!☕️

Good Morning 🌞 Community message from Pauline:

We have a small favor to ask. We're looking for a small microwave for the Community Center. If you have one in good working condition that you'd be willing to donate, we'd be incredibly thankful!
Know someone who has a microwave they're no longer using? Please share this post! We’d appreciate it.

We'd also like to give a special shout-out to Darrel, one of our wonderful Community Center regulars, who generously volunteered his time to weed-whack around the Community Center. His hard work made such a noticeable difference, and we're so grateful for his kindness and community spirit. Thank you, Darrel! 🌟

On another note, don’t forget we have ☕️ Perk Up Tuesdays on 7/14 from 7 to 10 a.m. Hope to see you there!

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who joined us for our very first Perk Up Tuesdays! It was wonderful to see neighbors stop by to enjoy coffee, conversation, and community. We hope this event was a great start to your day!

If you missed this week's gathering or you're ready for another cup of coffee and great company, we hope you'll join us again next Tuesday, July 14. We'll be there from 7 to 10 a.m. and can't wait to see you!

Also, we recently sent out a survey to all households in the Mi Wuk Village and Sugar Pine communities asking for your input on future events and activities at our Community Center/Library. Your feedback is incredibly important and will help us plan programs, events, and activities that truly reflect the needs and interests of our community. Please complete and return your survey by July 31.

If you haven't received a paper copy, or you'd rather complete it online, you can take the electronic survey here:
