Today, our community voted decisively for a 2AM last call. Miami Beach agrees: it’s time to reimagine South Beach into a live-work-play environment that puts residents first.

Tomorrow is election day, and we’re faced with a critical choice on what we want our city to be. Do you want Ocean Drive to be somewhere you can visit again, or do you want the all-night chaos to continue?

If you want things to change, please vote yes on a 2AM last call.

A few bars whose business model thrives on the 24-hour party district in South Beach will spend well over $1 million to convince you to change nothing. Their arguments are, frankly, absurd and insulting. Hurling offensive accusations against me and trying to scare you into thinking that the only option is to keep things precisely the way they are.

Here’s the truth: the Ocean Drive Association and dozens of business owners support a 2AM last call. Why? Because they want residents to come back to Ocean Drive. They want a reimagined South Beach. They want the chaos and all-night party to end.

Our peaceful press conference about the benefits of a 2AM last call for alcohol sales was attacked by an angry mob. There were few residents among them as they screamed threats and threw punches.

We cannot allow a mob dictate the future of our city's safety.

I arrived in Miami Beach in 2014, drawn to the challenge of policing the most iconic and dynamic entertainment city in the country. My last stop as a chief. I had landed well. Great, hard-working cops. A talented city management team. A supportive community.
