In Miami Beach, appealing a fine costs more than the fine itself, effectively discouraging challenges to unjust penalties. This is a code violation issued to a 33141 resident with a $100 fine, yet the appeal process costs $128—potentially plus the fine.

That is: if you appeal and win, it will cost you $128 no matter what, since those are admin fees that you wong get back. If you appeal and lose, then you'll have to pay $228.

𝐈 𝐬𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠. It is designed to make people desist from contesting the fine, since contesting it is more expensive than just paying it! That's crazy!

Miami Beach is tired of a community of live-aboard boaters anchored just offshore. It's adopted policies limiting their access, including making it illegal to tie up dinghies at a city boat launch.

We posted an update on our GoFundMe.com/miamibeachboaters to fight against the harassment legal boaters are facing from the local government of Miami Beach. We're almost at $10,000, which will help us get legal help. Please take a look, and if you think the city is treating us unfairly, consider donating or share on your social media! Thank You! ❤️⛵️

The beleaguered boaters have sent a cease and desist letter to the City Commission, with a warning that its actions against them are illegal. It is worth a read because it describes the new culture that is permeating our local government with the election and empowerment of MAGAs like Suárez, Meiner, and Maga (y que valga la redundancia).

Boaters have not been the only group being bullied, targeted, demonized and harassed by these maga-men. Drummers, not to mention homeless, non-maga Jews (JVP), dissenters and critics, legacy tour boat operators, small business owners, city employees and others have been too, and freedom of speech and assembly is being repressed. All the while they protect and nurture political and religious cronies, parasitical business friends. mobsters and city administration climbers.

What is a DINGHY DOCK? This 👇. It was used by boaters anchored on the Bay (whether cruising travelers or stable residents) to come on shore with their little inflatables to run errands, get groceries ,etc.

It was removed by order of Commissioner Suárez and a ban on dinghy docking was imposed with the stated purpose of forcing these individuals to break the law and flood them with $500+ tickets.

In order to put it back, said Commissioner demands a ransom of NINE THOUSAND DOLLARS A YEAR from each boater. He also demands a full time position for a "dinghy dock master" (chúpate eso) that will pay in the neighborhood of a hundred grand a year to the individual (a "custodio" type) that will sit at a beach chair all day watching this floating dinghy thingy. Rumor has it that there's already an applicant (friends of an individual that speaks at every city meeting to demand the approval of the position, apparently for his pal).

As if repressing speech and demonizing people is not enough, we have elected officials that are also about extorting residents by withholding and eliminating city facilities. This is what both corruption and moral decay look like in Miami Beach.

p.s. A comparative perusal of dinghy docking prices throughout the US, they range from FREE in West Palm Beach, to $50-100/year in the Hamptons.
