Today we commemorate June 19, 1865 — the day when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom, resilience, and the enduring pursuit of justice. It is also a reminder that the work of building a more equitable and inclusive democracy continues.

As Democrats, we honor the generations who fought for civil rights, voting rights, and equal opportunity, and we recommit ourselves to ensuring those rights are protected for all.

May we celebrate, reflect, and continue the work of creating a nation that lives up to its promise of liberty and justice for everyone.
