💭 Let’s Talk Truth: Why Being a Notary Ain’t for Everybody

Everybody see the stamps, signatures, and quick money posts online, but let’s be real, it’s way more than that. Here’s the part they don’t tell you 👇🏽

1️⃣ Customer service is everything.
If you don’t like talking to people, this field will humble you quick. You’re gonna deal with every type of personality, late clients, last-minute cancellations, and a few my cousin said experts 😩. You gotta know how to confirm, communicate, and correct professionally.

2️⃣ If you’re chasing fast money, you’ll burn out.
This isn’t an overnight hustle. Your name, reputation, and referrals take time to build. Be consistent, stay visible, and let the results speak for you.

3️⃣ Integrity > Income.
Notaries handle serious stuff like wills, trusts, & powers of attorney. You might witness situations that test your morals. If you’re only chasing the bag, you’ll make bad calls. Walk away from shady situations, even if $300 is waved in your face. You took an oath to protect the public, not your pockets.

4️⃣ Details will make or break you.
If you hate reviewing your work, this ain’t your lane. One missed signature or wrong date can cost you a client or worse.

5️⃣ You gotta spend money to make money.
This isn’t a $0 startup business. Real talk, here’s what you’ll need if you’re doing loan signings:
🖨️ Dual-tray laser printer: $400–$600
🖋️ Toner: $200–$300 (or grab a 4-pack on eBay for $120)
📠 High-speed scanner: $350–$400 (non-negotiable)
📄 Legal paper: $15 per pack or $90 a box
This is an investment, not a hobby.

6️⃣ Do your homework.
Stop skipping the basics. Learn your state laws, study your handbooks, and use free resources. Paid training helps, but experience will teach you more than any course ever could.

7️⃣ Marketing is non-negotiable.
If people don’t know you exist, they can’t book you. You are your own brand, so post, network, and show up consistently.

8️⃣ Don’t quit your 9-to-5 just yet.
Yes, it can become full-time, but it takes patience and strategy. Some days your phone won’t stop ringing, other days it’s crickets. Your discipline on the quiet days determines how successful your busy ones will be.

✨ This isn’t to discourage you, it’s to prepare you.
There’s a lot of hype out there, but success takes work, patience, and integrity. Move smart, stay consistent, and remember, what’s meant for you won’t miss you 💫

Are you a Notary Public?

Florida is full of notaries, but not all notaries are created equal.

One thing that often confuses people about notary services is knowing when witnesses are required for document signing.

As a notary professional with Exquisite Notary Solutions, I've noticed many clients aren't aware of common situations requiring witnesses.

Here's what you need to know:

1. Real Estate Documents
Deeds, mortgages, and property transfers typically require two witnesses in addition to notarization. This extra layer of security helps prevent fraud and ensures the legitimacy of property transactions. However, witness requirements vary significantly by state and document type. For example, Florida mandates two witnesses for deeds, while Ohio and Washington have no witness requirements for deeds. Always check local laws before scheduling a signing.

2. Last Will and Testament
Most states require at least two witnesses for wills. These witnesses must be present when the testator signs and must sign the document themselves. They confirm the testator was of sound mind. Its usually good practice not to use a family member as a witness to avoid conflict.

3. Medical Documents
Living wills and healthcare directives often need witnesses. Usually, these witnesses can't be healthcare providers or family members to avoid conflicts of interest.

4. Power of Attorney
While not all states require witnesses for POAs, having them adds credibility and helps prevent future legal challenges. Some institutions may require witnessed POAs regardless of state law.

5. Affidavits
Court-related affidavits frequently require witness signatures to verify that the statements made under oath are true and accurate.

6. Signers who are unable to write or sign can sign signature by Mark or X. Most states require two witnesses and must watch the signer make their mark. The witnesses then sign as well confirming that the person making the mark is the one intended to sign.

My advice to clients:
Always check witness requirements before scheduling a notary appointment. Requirements vary by state and document type. Better to have witnesses ready than delay important transactions.
