On August 21, the 25th Annual Hispanic Women of Distinction Charity Awards Luncheon honored the outstanding 2026 Hispanic Women of Distinction before nearly 1,000 guests.

Congratulations to all the honorees, especially Dr. Griselle Marino, Director of the Miami-Dade County Hispanic Affairs Advisory Board, who celebrated this special recognition surrounded by family, friends, board members and community leaders.

Among her distinguished guests were Consul General of Spain Belén Alfaro Hernández, members of the Consulate General of Colombia in Miami, Miami-Dade Public Defender Carlos J. Martinez and María Claverie of FIU CARTA. Doral Councilwoman Maureen Porras also joined in support of Griselle’s recognition.

The luncheon was attended by Erika Donalds, wife of Republican gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds, and Sweetwater Mayor José “Pepe” Díaz, along with other elected officials and community leaders.

While official election duties prevented me from attending, I am proud to congratulate my friend Griselle and all the remarkable 2026 Hispanic Women of Distinction on this well deserved and prestigious recognition.

Supervisor of Elections Alina Garcia stands in solidarity with the people of Nicaragua and denounces the Ortega regime’s continued dismantling of democratic institutions and the fundamental right of citizens to choose their leaders through free and fair elections. 🇳🇮🇺🇸

Supervisor Garcia was joined by Nicaraguan community leaders and elected officials, including Norman Caldera, former Nicaraguan Minister of Foreign Affairs; City of Doral Mayor Christi Fraga; Doral Councilwoman Nicole Reinoso; Miami-Dade Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez; Weston Commissioner Fabio Andrade; and Nicaraguan leaders Ana Margarita Abaunza, Helen Ferrer Aguirre, Marco Novoa, and Carlos Pereira, with support from the offices of U.S. Senator Ashley Moody, Congressman Giménez, and Commissioner JC Bermudez.

Together, they raised their voices to speak the truth about the Ortega regime, the erosion of democratic institutions in Nicaragua, and the importance of defending the right of every citizen to have a voice in their government.

As Supervisor of Elections, Garcia remains a steadfast advocate for democracy, free and fair elections, and the fundamental right to vote. When people are denied the ability to make their voices heard at the ballot box, those who believe in democracy have a responsibility to speak out.

Miami-Dade County is home to the largest Nicaraguan community in the United States. As an elected representative of this diverse community, Supervisor Garcia will continue to stand with Nicaraguans in Miami-Dade and abroad who seek freedom, justice, and the restoration of democratic rights.

Democracy depends on the voice of the people—and that voice must never be silenced. 🗳️🇳🇮🇺🇸
