Many people fear snakes but gaining a bit of knowledge and respect for them can turn fear into fascination. Today is World Snake Day and we know that snakes are a vital part of a healthy ecosystem and should be celebrated!

Our rangers get a lot of questions about those big invasive snakes, but we have 26 native snakes too! One of which is the threatened Eastern Indigo Snake, the largest native snake in the Everglades. These non-venomous, docile snakes eat fish, small birds, and small mammals, and even other snakes and small alligators as well!

If you're lucky and observant, you just might be rewarded with a sighting of one of these amazing creatures while exploring the Everglades.

What's your favorite Everglades snake? Let us know in the comments below!
