On January 15, 2025, the Miami-Dade County LGBTQIA+ Advisory Board held a productive meeting at the Stephen P. Clark Center, bringing together a diverse group of community leaders committed to improving the lives of the LGBTQIA+ community. The meeting provided an opportunity for collaboration and updates on key initiatives that support Miami-Dade’s LGBTQIA+ residents, visitors, and businesses.

Key Highlights from the Meeting:

🌈 Mission and Purpose: The board’s mission is to advise the Board of County Commissioners on laws and policies that directly affect the LGBTQIA+ community. They work to ensure a strong voice for the LGBTQIA+ community in local government and public policy, advocating for the development and empowerment of the community.

🗣 Actionable Items and Discussions:

The meeting opened with roll call and the approval of the agenda and previous minutes.
A critical part of the session was the Reasonable Opportunity to Be Heard, allowing board members to voice concerns and ideas.
Updates on the FIU Metropolitan Center Assessment Survey were presented, showcasing the board’s commitment to gathering data and understanding community needs.
📜 Legislative Updates and New Business: The board also discussed upcoming priorities for the 2025 Legislative Session, emphasizing the need for advocacy in shaping the future of LGBTQIA+ rights in Miami-Dade. Additionally, they reviewed policies for the BCC Chambers Use, ensuring access and inclusion for community events.

💬 Chairman’s & Director’s Reports: The Chairman and Director provided updates on their ongoing efforts to collaborate with county leaders and push forward LGBTQIA+ initiatives that benefit the local community.
