🇹🇹 Trinidad and Tobago is celebrating 64 years of independence!

The City of Lauderhill came alive for “A Taste of Trinidad and Tobago,” a cultural celebration hosted in collaboration with the Consulate General of Trinidad and Tobago in Miami. From steelpan, soca, chutney and tassa to Carnival costumes and authentic cuisine, the event showcased the culture, music and traditions that continue to unite the Trinbagonian community.

Acting Consul General Tracey Ramsubagh-Mannette and Lauderhill Mayor Denise Grant shared why celebrating Caribbean culture and diversity remains so important. The celebration also featured interviews with Carnival costume designer Anthony Irish, Glen Phillips of Melo Groove Steel Orchestra, and G&L Record Label artist Sofi Saint and more

What part of Trinidad and Tobago’s culture makes you most proud: the food, music, Carnival, steelpan or something else? 🇹🇹👇

In today’s episode of “Me eh know he was a Trini!”, we present Mark Quashie aka The Man Stuntman, the original voice behind the iconic “I like to move it” song, popularized by the “Madagascar” franchise. Mark came out to show his Trinbago pride at “A Taste of Trinidad and Tobago” in Lauderhill, Florida on August 28, 2026 in celebration of Trinidad and Tobago’s 64th Anniversary of Independence. Special thanks to Sweet Shells for arranging this surprise.
