FACULTY APPROVED the 2026-2027 Reopener Bargaining Agreement on Compensation at the ratification election on August 20, 2026.

The Miami Dade College Board of Trustees will vote on the tentative agreement at their September 15, 2026 meeting. If approved, the salary increase will be applied retroactively to August 19, 2026.

UFMDC was represented at the AFT Convention by William Murphy (Kendall Campus Co-Vice President), Lomer Pierre-Philippe (Executive Secretary), Elizabeth Ramsay (President), Mark Richard (Retiree Chapter) and Elisa Rodriguez (Medical Campus Co-Vice President). In packed sessions over four days, delegates debated and passed resolutions on a range of pressing issues—from reclaiming the promise of public education, to protecting immigrant communities, rebuilding public health, tackling the affordability and student debt crises. UFMDC was proud to propose and present a unanimously adopted resolution, Strengthening Minority-Serving Institutions, Expanding Pell and Creating Educational Opportunity for All Students.

Bargaining Report: During Session 2, UFMDC and MDC reached a tentative agreement.

At the second re-opener bargaining session on compensation on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 in the West Campus, UFMDC and the College reached a tentative agreement for the 2026-2027 academic year.

Highlights:
3% increase to base salary effective August 19, 2026.
3% increase to the maximum of each rank from Assistant through Professor.
$1,000 Faculty Award for completion of 10 hours of specific FPD-approved workshops by April 30, 2027 with payment by May 28, 2027.

On Thursday, April 9, 2026, a team of UFMDC members met with President Madeline Pumariega, Executive Vice President and Provost Malou Harrison, Campus Presidents, and other members of the College President's Cabinet for a Labor-Management Meeting.

The agenda included items such as curriculum and textbooks for sociology, psychology, American history, and other General Education courses, overload assignments and procedures for exceptions to overload limits, selection of dual enrollment courses, and facilities for fine arts classes.

Each item began with a presentation from faculty, followed by discussion, clarifying questions, and proposed actions to resolve issues. Although the conversation included difficult topics and hard truths, a spirit of collaboration prevailed.
