The South Florida Digital Alliance is an unprecedented collaboration of diverse South Florida entities representing government, healthcare, education, nonprofit organizations and the private sector. Our shared goal is to increase South Florida’s economic competitiveness through the support of digital literacy programs and the elimination of the “digital divide”, especially in the underserved areas of our community. The mission of the South Florida Digital Alliance is to transform the community through the promotion of digital literacy and the adoption of affordable broadband access by all citizens of South Florida. The South Florida Digital Alliance Inc (SFDA) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable foundation whose mission is to expand digital literacy and provide connectivity to all South Florida residents regardless of income level. Specifically, the Alliance’s goals for South Florida are:
• Educating our community in the use of the tools of technology. Painting the picture of how new technology skills and a fully connected community can enhance the quality of life for all residents.
• Increasing access for South Florida residents to the tools of technology by establishing community-based Technology Learning Centers (TLCs) in convenient public spaces; especially, in “underserved areas” of our community.
• Assisting nonprofit and educational organizations with affordable connectivity, technology assets, services and training
• Connecting all residents of our community to affordable technology assets, access and training.
• Sponsoring technology learning programs and events to increase the adoption of technology and technology skills and to educate our residents about how technology and applications can provide new economic, educational and social opportunities.
• Refurbishing and relicensing donated technology equipment to be used in community learning centers, nonprofit organizations, and educational institutions.
• Recycling donated equipment that cannot be repurposed in accordance with local, state and federal guidelines.
The SFDA has four major initiatives:
• REBOOT | MIAMI, BROWARD, & PALM BEACH The collection and refurbishment of donated computers, these resources are then shared with schools, public parks, senior centers, and community organizations to support educational programs and enhance digital literacy.
• TECHNOLOGY LEARNING CENTERS (TLCs) In collaboration with local municipalities, the SFDA establishes publicly accessible computing centers, connecting our neighbors and communities to the Internet while providing resources and opportunities to enable after-school programs, adult education, and job training.
• LEVEL-UP | TECHNOLOGY 101 The SFDA facilitates internship/mentor programs focused on developing technology skillsets and professional attributes; those essential to enhancing career-growth opportunities while helping the greater community establish a world-class competitive workforce.
• POWER-UP | NON-PROFIT TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT The SFDA offers its technical acumen and resources to serve and support not-for-profit organizations; ensuring maximization of technology investments to support their own goals and unique services provided to the community.
