On March 13th, at FIU President Jeanette Nunez's fireside chat, students silently advocated for their community with 'ICE OFF FIU' t-shirts. Months later, seven students are told their diplomas will be withheld for said action.
Through this reprimand, FIU has violated seven students freedom of speech and publicly demonstrated their lack of care for their student body. Instead of abolishing FIU's 287g agreement, or even attempting to hear out their primarily immigrant population, they have decided to punish those who dare to speak out against them.
But the battle isn't over yet, and these students aren't giving in to FIU's fascist demands for complacency and silence. Partnered with the ACLU, the FIU 7 are now taking this federal. It's time for these students to receive the justice they deserve and for FIU to reconsider their decisions!
Please support these brave seven students by staying up to date with this case, following ICEbreakers FIU Coalition and signing their petition to END FIU's 287 agreement, and spreading the message.
