City of Miami/Ottawa County Emergency Management to Participate in Statewide Disaster Exercise Tuesday

On Tuesday, October 31, from 10am til 2pm City of Miami/Ottawa County Emergency Management will join numerous state and local emergency management agencies in an annual exercise to test emergency operations center functions during a major disaster.

Local emergency managers across the state will be activating their emergency operations centers for the exercise and will be working with other local response and voluntary agencies, as they would during an actual event. Agencies will work through a series of fictional scenarios, including earthquakes, wildfires, and tornadoes, which will test their ability to communicate and coordinate response.

Numerous organizations will be participating in the exercise, including the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management, Oklahoma National Guard, Oklahoma Department of Public Safety, Oklahoma State Department of Health, Oklahoma Department of Transportation, Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, Oklahoma Corporation Commission, American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and others.

The exercise will test all available types of disaster communications and resource request capabilities between city, county and state emergency management and provide emergency responders with an opportunity to gain “hands on” experience with disaster response procedures.

The exercise was developed by the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management in partnership with the Oklahoma National Guard’s Vigilant Guard exercise.

Tomorrow, Sunday October 1st, 2017 the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office along with other police officers from the area will be assisting with the Mother Road Marathon which begins at 7:00am. The race will start in Commerce and travel along alt69 highway, through the city of Quapaw and across the Kansas state line.

We are temporarily closing alt69 highway between Commerce and Quapaw beginning at 6:45am in the morning. Northbound traffic will be diverted to the west on east county road 60 from south 580 road (mushroom farm road) until the last runner clears the road. Several county roads including 590, 592, and 600 along with 69 highway will be blocked on this route to allow safe passage for the runners.

Once they exit the city of Quapaw, the runners will use the northbound shoulder for travel. Safety cones will be set out on the fog line to warn the motoring public until they reach the Kansas state line.

We do not wish to disrupt the flow of traffic for any longer than is absolutely necessary, and we ask that you pay extra attention if you are traveling in these areas early Sunday morning. There will be aid stations set up along the road, as well as safety vehicles and officers utilizing motorcycles to es**rt the runners. We expect the highway between Commerce and Quapaw to be blocked for approximately 1 1/2 hours.

We appreciate your patience during this time and wish all the runners the best of luck.

Much respect to your SD and decision to go after stoney crowder #justiceforsadie
Actually the Sheriffs office here murdered the ex sheriff, waited one hour to call 911 and report he committed su***de.
Did you let that guy die to show you are on a power trip or are you guys practicing medicine without a license? You can talk you can breathe sounds like a medical background of sorts. Doctor or Officer?
If you can talk you can breathe. I wish they would criminally charge you guys for murder like the Epstein Jailers!
EVERY jailer should be fired and your stinking facility used to jail only your filthy ex jailers
This is how you're viewed in the nation's eyes. Are you proud of this??!! https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10216655238438799&id=1395638393
Anyone die in your jail while being mocked lately? Fu***ng scumbags.
So what was done about the poor guy who turned himself in for old warrants and then was treated like $#@& and left to die?? That is complete and utter chicken $#@&. My opinion.
It's pretty bad when our county commissionors will spend tax payers money paving a section of dirt road in front of stone hill cattle company on 130 road and say it's for something about route 66 which isn't even on that side of E street, but they won't fund a sheriff's dept. that helps keep this county safe! Maybe that should be investigated...
Sheriffs dept office isn’t a very safe place if someone can come in and steal a tree without any hesitation. Good thing he didn’t walk in with an assault rifle or bomb. And is this place so small there’s only one employee? How can you NOT catch someone walking around carrying a 6 or 7 ft decorated Christmas tree? Sounds like OCSO needs to rethink security and personnel fitness training. How embarrassing.
Hello, I need your help. My family has land out east of town that is land locked. It is old Indian land that my parents owned and we recently learned someone is going there and cutting down the walnut trees and selling them to a sawmill. I called your office and asked for help. She told me that I have to go out there and get proof it is happening. I tried to explain that it is landlocked and the criminal is accessing it by boat. I think I need a deputy to accompany out there because the owners next to us have put up a fence and held my son-in-law and grandchildren at gunpoint the last time they tried to go out there. I am afraid to go out there alone and try to access the land again. This is land that has been in my family for generations and is now owned by my sister, myself and my niece. We need your help if at all possible, or who can you refer me to? Thank you in advance for your help.
