TODAY 1-6pm BLOOD DRIVE. PLEASE SUPPORT OUR ARMED FORCES, PLEASE SHARE, PLEASE DONATE. Today, May 28 from 1-6pm, there will be a blood drive from at host agency, American Legion Skwiat Post 451 in Michigan City, IN (details in flyer below). Operation Pulse Lift is NOT YOUR ORDINARY BLOOD DRIVE. This event was organized by Michigan City Composite Squadron Michigan City and Indiana Wing, Civil Air Patrol (CAP), which conducts blood drives through Operation Pulse Lift to provide critical support for the Department of Defenses Armed Services Blood Program (ASBP), directly assisting military casualties and supporting nationwide blood shortages. Operation Pulse Lift is CAP’s largest humanitarian mission, serving as a “force multiplier” for the military. While CAP is the official civilian auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, its members are volunteers, CAP’s efforts ensure that blood is available for combat casualties and service members worldwide. ASBP, as well as to civilian agencies like the American Red Cross, collects blood for disaster relief. It is used for wounded service members, veterans, and in civilian emergencies along with local hospitals. Citizens Concerned for the Homeless, Inc. is donating two $100 Walmart gift cards and five $25 gift cards to raffle off for those donating blood and supporting our Armed Forces. COMMUNITY, COUNTRY.

OPERATION PULSE LIFT. PLEASE DONATE BLOOD, SHARE THIS MESSAGE AND BE SOMEONE'S HERO.
Blood shortages remain a critical concern across the United States. Since COVID-19, the national blood supply has struggled to recover, and organizations such as the American Red Cross and the American Hospital Association have continued to issue shortage alerts. Although the initial disruptions of the pandemic have passed, long-term challenges have kept the donor base too small to meet ongoing needs.
Operation Pulse Lift was launched by Civil Air Patrol in March 2020 to help address shortages caused by the closure of blood collection centers. Through this effort, the Civil Air Patrol, including the Indiana Wing and the local Michigan City unit, helps organize blood drive events and locations. Since 2020, the program has coordinated with 98 facilities across 37 states, while partner collection agencies distribute donated blood where it is needed most.
This week, we gather from 1-6 at the host agency, American Legion Skwiat Post 451 to help with this critical mission. Working with organizations ranging from the Armed Services Blood Program (ASBP) to the American Red Cross, Operation Pulse Lift has supported more than 900 blood drives since 2020 and helped collect more than 95,000 units of blood. That contribution has the potential to help save more than 300,000 lives. Please use the QR code on the flyer to reserve your time to donate.
Please consider donating blood and sharing this message. YOU CAN BE SOMEONE'S HERO.

Yesterday afternoon, Citizens Concerned for the Homeless, Inc. was invited to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Barker Depot, the newest expansion to The Barker Mansion complex and a reminder of the historical significance of the Haskell & Barker Car Company and its impact on Michigan City. After the ribbon cutting, a reception and award ceremony was held at the new Barker Cottage (congratulations to Dale Cooper for winning the Barker prize). Sarane H. Ross was also recognized for her lifetime of service to Michigan City and to the organization. It was a wonderful evening of celebration, networking and discovery. Like everything else associated with The Barker Mansion and the Barker Welfare Foundation, these new offerings, as well as the event, were rich in history and significance.

Earth Month HGAP EcoChallenge-Recycle Your Shoe! Earth Month, held annually in April, is a time dedicated to raising awareness about environmental issues and promoting sustainability. This past week, Hitachi Global Air Power (formerly Sullair) had a Recycle Your Shoes EcoChallenge for the benefit of the Keys to Hope Community Resource Center program of Citizens Concerned for the Homeless, Inc. It was an overwhelming success (see photo)

This afternoon, we were honored to welcome our friend Kelly Molchan as she delivered a vehicle filled with donated shoes. We are deeply grateful for this generous contribution and for the strong partnership that has continued to grow over the past few years, with Kelly’s leadership playing a key role. Thank you to everyone at HGAP who helped make this initiative possible. Community!
