Today was a great start to the 2026 Police Unity Tour, with stops in Camden, Gloucester and Salem Counties, as the riders prepare to head to Washington DC tomorrow morning. It was great to see so many community members alongside of today’s route, showing the officers support! Good luck, and thank you to all of the PUT riders, especially EGPD riders Mike McCabe, Jim Golding and Breanna Koch. “They ride for those who died” 💙

On Saturday, May 9, East Greenwich Township will have the honor of welcoming the Police Unity Tour – Chapter 2 as they pass through our community on their journey to Washington, D.C.

The riders are expected to travel southbound on Kings Highway between approximately 11:00 AM and 11:30 AM, on Saturday May 9th, as they make their way toward their scheduled stop in Woolwich Township. The Police Unity Tour is an annual event that honors law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty, while raising awareness and support for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.

We encourage residents to safely line Kings Highway and show their support by waving and cheering on these dedicated riders as they begin their long and meaningful journey.

Please join us in especially recognizing our own East Greenwich Police Department officers participating in this year’s 30th Anniversary ride:
Officer Michael McCabe, Officer James Golding, and Officer Breanna Koch. Their commitment to honoring fallen officers represents the very best of our profession and our community.

Today, the East Greenwich Township Police Department proudly recognizes Chief Matthew Brenner, Captain Brett Pfeiffer, and Lieutenant Kyle Messick on their graduation from the 14-week NJSACOP Command & Leadership Course.

Attending in Region #3 (New Castle County, DE), this highly competitive program, modeled after leadership principles developed with the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, prepares law enforcement leaders to meet the challenges of modern policing.

Chief Brenner, Captain Pfeiffer, and Lieutenant Messick are the first EGPD Command Staff to collectively complete this intensive program together, reflecting a shared commitment to leadership, innovation, and professional excellence.

We also extend our appreciation to the Township Committee, our officers, and the entire agency for their continued support, which makes achievements like this possible.

The East Greenwich Township Police Department proudly supported today’s regional “Click It or Ticket” press event at Citizens Bank Park, joining our law enforcement partners from across New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware to promote seat belt safety.

Officer Randy Jenkins and Officer James DiMarco represented our agency, engaging with media and helping highlight the importance of buckling up to save lives. They even had a chance to meet the Philly Phanatic while spreading an important safety message.

The “Click It or Ticket” campaign runs May 11–31. Remember — seat belts save lives. Buckle up every trip, every time.

Rest easy, Chip. Your service will never be forgotten, sir.

PASSING OF FIREFIGHTER/ CHAPLIN CHARLES SNYDER

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of one of our own. Firefighter Charles “Chip” Snyder went home to be with the Lord.

Chip was a proud 50-year member of our department — a true staple around the station and our go-to handyman who could fix just about anything.

His dedication, knowledge, and presence were irreplaceable, and his passing leaves a hole in our department that will be very difficult to fill.

Chip, we thank you for your decades of service to our department, our community, and the residents of East Greenwich. Rest easy, brother. We’ll take it from here. 🙏

To Susan, Caleb, and Charlie — our hearts are with you. We are forever grateful for sharing Chip with us, and for your understanding and support every time he answered the call to protect others. Your sacrifice did not go unnoticed.

Chip will never be forgotten. His legacy will live on in every call we answer and every life we protect.

The East Greenwich Police Department invites you to **save the date** for a special “Stars, Stripes & First Responders Night” as we kick off our community’s America 250 celebration. 🇺🇸

On Thursday, July 2, 2026, join us at Thompson Family Park (40 E. Wolfert Station Road) from 5:30 PM–9:30 PM for an evening of food trucks, games and prizes, music, first responder demos, and a fireworks and drone show finale in honor of our nation’s 250th birthday (rain date: Thursday, July 9, 2026). 🎆🚓

You may have already seen the new 250th anniversary banners on telephone poles throughout East Greenwich Township—this event will bring that history to life with family-friendly activities, interactive displays from local, county, and state emergency services, and a chance for kids to sign a replica Declaration of Independence that will be sealed in a time capsule for future generations. 📝📜

Mark your calendars, spread the word, and stay tuned for more details as we get closer to July 2. 🎇
