Dear Residents,
I am writing to provide an important update regarding the proposed data center application that had been submitted by American Tower Company (“Applicant”) for consideration in East Greenwich Township by the Planning and Zoning Board.
Late yesterday afternoon, our Planning Board attorney was notified that the Applicant has formally withdrawn their application and will no longer be pursuing approval of the proposed data center project before the Planning and Zoning Board. As a result, there are no pending applications for a data center before the Township and the special meeting on June 30, 2026, at Samuel Mickle School will be cancelled.
Throughout this process, the application underwent a comprehensive and detailed review by the Township's professional staff and consultants. The Applicant received review comments from numerous professionals, including the Township Traffic Engineer, Township Planner, and our Township Engineer, which also included an Acoustic Expert Report, in order to be thorough and to consider all potential impacts on our township and residents. The reviews provided by these township appointed professionals evaluated all aspects of the proposal, including traffic, land use, ordinance compliance, engineering, and acoustic concerns.
Throughout this process, the Township's role was to ensure that this application, as well as all applications, are reviewed in accordance with applicable laws, ordinances, and procedures while providing opportunities for public participation and input. We remained committed to conducting the process fairly, openly, and transparently.
Over the past several months, this proposal has generated significant public interest and discussion throughout our community. I want to thank the residents who attended meetings, submitted comments, asked questions, and participated in the process. Regardless of individual viewpoints, the level of civic engagement demonstrated by our residents reflects the strength of our community and our shared commitment to the future of East Greenwich Township.
In response to concerns raised by residents and the evolving understanding of data center development, the Township Committee also took proactive steps to evaluate the long-term impact such facilities may have on our community. As part of that effort, the Township was one of the first municipalities in South Jersey to adopt an ordinance to prohibit future data center development within East Greenwich Township.
The Township remains committed to protecting the character of our community, preserving our quality of life, and ensuring that future development aligns with our prepared master plan and the values and expectations of our residents.
I would also like to thank our Township staff, our professionals, the Planning and Zoning Board members, our Superintendent at East Greenwich Schools, Andrea Evans, and our elected officials who dedicated significant time and effort to reviewing information, answering questions, and addressing concerns throughout this process.
East Greenwich Township has always benefited from residents who care deeply about their community, and your involvement continues to play an important role in shaping its future.
Thank you for your continued engagement and support.
Sincerely,
Jim Philbin
Mayor
East Greenwich Township

Dear Residents,
Transparency and open communication have always been a priority in East Greenwich Township, and we remain committed to ensuring our residents have access to all Township information and government processes.
For more than 13 years, the Township Committee of East Greenwich Township has worked to increase transparency and improve communication with our residents. This includes the creation of our Township newsletter, which is distributed during the Fall and Spring seasons every year. In addition, during our scheduled township meetings every month, we also hold two separate Public Sessions. We also communicate regularly to the public through Township email updates, and frequent Facebook communications. Therefore, please sign up to obtain these updates.
Earlier this year, the Township also updated the format of meeting agendas to include links to referenced documents whenever possible. Our goal, with the cooperation of the Chairman and board, is to expand this same approach to Planning and Zoning Board agendas, where permitted by law and applicable due to public disclosure requirements.
As part of this ongoing effort, the Township is working on several improvements designed to enhance communication and public accessibility. Earlier this year, the Township began to explore upgrades to our township website in order to improve user experience as well as to make information easier to locate. We currently have a shared service agreement with Kingsway to handle our IT services, and we have already spoken to them regarding this matter. It was suggested by Kingsway IT to meet with our department heads to review the website design and make some suggested changes before scheduling a meeting with Kingsway IT to review those suggestions and to discuss what would be possible and what the related cost would be.
We have also posted the audio recordings of Township meetings on our website for the 2025 and 2026 calendar years. They are now available to be heard and can be located on the website under “Government” and then under “Township Meetings”. We are also actively working toward livestreaming Township meetings and posting video recordings online to further expand public access. We are currently evaluating the technical requirements and associated costs to implement these enhancements with Kingsway IT.
Finally, in the interest of continued transparency regarding informal meetings of the Land Use Board, we have asked the Planning and Zoning Board Chairman to provide updates at monthly board meetings regarding any informal discussions that have taken place. These updates will also be included on meeting agendas when presented.
Future plans also include replacing the municipal building sign with a programmable LED digital sign to better share important Township information and announcements with our residents.
Our goal is to continue building trust through openness, accessibility, and communication. We take great pride in maintaining a transparent local government and will continue to keep our residents informed and engaged.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our community.

Sincerely,
Jim Philbin
Mayor of East Greenwich Township

Memorial Day: A Day of Remembrance (2026)

Since 1775, an estimated 1,308,000 men and women have given their lives in service to our nation. Memorial Day is the day we come together in unity to honor the courage and sacrifice of those who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms and way of life.

Kingsway Regional High School held its 31st Annual Memorial Day Ceremony on May 22, 2026. This year’s theme, “250 Years of Sacrifice,” paid tribute to fallen service members from the Kingsway community:

• Donald Lee Corbin, Class of 1965

• Stephanie J. Fiducioso, Class of 1965

• Dennis P. Martin, Class of 1968

• Ryan K. Iannelli, Class of 2002

Mayor Jim Philbin, Deputy Mayor Rick Schober, and Committeewoman Eileen Hollinshead proudly represented East Greenwich Township at this meaningful event.

East Greenwich Township held its Memorial Day Ceremony on May 25, 2026. We were honored to welcome VFW Post 5579 of Gibbstown, who laid wreaths in dedication to all the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. A special moment of silence was observed in remembrance of our local heroes who gave their lives in service to our nation.

The Banners of Heroes, added to the municipal building last year and displayed year-round, stand as a lasting tribute. Positioned on light poles throughout the municipal complex, these banners honor nine East Greenwich residents who made the ultimate sacrifice. As we mark 250 years of military service—from the American Revolution to present-day conflicts—we remember:

• Colonel Dr. Bodo Otto, Jr., surgeon in General George Washington’s army alongside his father, Dr. Bodo Otto, Sr.

• Private Daniel Kiernan, Company H, 12th New Jersey Infantry Regiment (Union Army)

• Private George W. Allen, Company F, 12th New Jersey Infantry Regiment (Union Army)

• Private William Dermitt, Company H, 12th New Jersey Infantry Regiment (Union Army)

• PFC Charles R. Corliss, U.S. Marine Corps, 4th Division, killed at the Battle of Iwo Jima

• Lieutenant Stephen J. Kritz, U.S. Army Air Forces pilot during World War II

• Private David E. Mills, U.S. Army, killed in action in Metz, France during World War II

• PFC John H. Pool, U.S. Army, killed in action in Baal, Germany during World War II

• Captain Ryan K. Iannelli, U.S. Marine Corps helicopter pilot, killed during combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan

These banners serve as a powerful reminder of the legacy these men leave behind. They not only defended our freedoms, but helped shape the very fabric of our community.

For those unable to attend, we ask that you take a quiet moment of remembrance. Reflect on the lives lost in service to our nation and express gratitude for the veterans who continue to stand watch over our freedoms. Share their stories with future generations so they may understand the true cost of liberty.

Let us never forget: all gave some—and some gave all.
