Last night, we wrapped up the final night of our vertical ventilation training series.

Over the past several training nights, our firefighters have spent time in the classroom learning about vertical ventilation and then putting those lessons into practice with hands-on roof training.

So, why do firefighters cut holes in roofs during a fire?

Vertical ventilation allows heat, smoke, and dangerous gases to escape from a burning structure. When coordinated with crews working inside, ventilation can improve visibility and conditions for firefighters, help slow the spread of smoke and heat, and make it safer to search for anyone who may still be inside.

We appreciate the members of Pine Level Fire Department and Selma Fire Department who joined us for this training. Working and training together helps all of our departments operate better when weโ€™re called to an emergency together.

Thanks to everyone who came out and put in the work!

(Thanks to Pine Level Fire for sharing some ๐Ÿ“ท from training.)
