MGED is proud to announce that we have received national recognition for achieving exceptional electric reliability in 2025. The recognition comes from the American Public Power Association (APPA), a trade group that represents more than 2,000 not-for-profit, community-owned electric utilities.

APPA helps electric utilities track power outage and restoration data through its subscription-based PowerTRX Reliability service. Once per year, APPA’s Reliability Team compares this data to national statistics tracked by the U.S. Energy Information Administration for all types of electric utilities.

Nationwide, the average public power customer has their lights out for less than half the amount of time that customers of other types of utilities do.

The State of Massachusetts requires gas meters to be replaced every 7 years to ensure they are working accurately and safely.

Please be aware that MGED employees may arrive without prior notice if your meter is due for replacement. All MGED employees carry proper identification. Because our team will need access to gas appliances to relight pilot lights and confirm everything is operating properly, someone from the home will need to be present during the meter change. They will knock on your door to ensure you are home before any work begins.

If you are not home, a letter will be left with the information to call and schedule an appointment for the meter change.

Please call MGED at 508-947-1535 if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you for helping us maintain safe and reliable service for our community!
