One year in the books! Thank you to our department and community leaders for their commitment!

As a result of the implementation of civilian dispatchers and increased staffing, our department has improved response times, strengthened firefighter safety, and enhanced our ability to protect both residents and visitors. With eight firefighters on duty daily and a fully operational South Station, we are better positioned to serve our growing community.

These changes have reduced our reliance on mutual aid while allowing us to better support our neighboring towns when called upon.

We are grateful to everyone who made these improvements possible. Our members remain committed to answering every call with professionalism, dedication, and pride.

April 7, 2025 is an Historic Day for the Middleborough Fire Department.

Today the department:

1 - Transfers all dispatch duties to civilian Fire Alarm Operators.

2 - Implements an improved staffing model to include two fire apparatus staffed with a minimum of three firefighters.

3 - Adequately staffs South Station on a 24/7 basis for the first time in the history of the department.

A formal press release is forth coming - but we are excited about today and wanted to share this information immediately.

Thank you to everyone who has helped us get to this level of protection for our community.

This is the good stuff.

Cancer is the leading cause of firefighter line of duty deaths in America. Chronic exposure to carcinogens have gotten more dangerous as modern furnishings and construction materials are increasingly made from synthetic materials. Our members are exposed to PFAS as well as many other harmful forever chemicals in their turnout gear on every response.

Legislation passed into law now acknowledges these risks, and provides families of fallen firefighters death benefits accordingly. Thank you to The IAFF for working with elected officials to accomplish this historic act.

We continue to work with local elected officials to improve the safety and support of our membership throughout their careers.
