Did you know that national studies show that most police agencies spend about 1/3 of their time handling non-criminal complaints? These can be anything from noise complaints to landlord/tenant disputes to a child struggling with behavioral issues and anything in-between.

The police usually have little to no authority in these situations and frequently the outcome is the problem remains unsolved, often festering and growing until a crime is finally committed. THEN the police can take action. Imagine the frustration of looking for help and finding none. Imagine the frustration of the police officer unable to solve a problem until it reaches crisis level.

Now imagine if instead the police were able to field these calls and immediately help people find the right resources to solve the conflict. Imagine if the police had these resources at hand because they were working in partnership with mediators who have the time and expertise to help neighbors negotiate a solution to the noise complaint or parties settle a contract dispute, or with substance abuse counselors to address the underlying reasons for a family in distress or case managers able to find programs to help parents whose child is struggling…

That is the aim of Addison County Community Support. We are well along the way to achieving these goals. Having our Deputies able to help people find the solutions to these “quality of life” issues AND freeing the Deputies up to be able to concentrate on crime, traffic safety and education and prevention efforts allows us to best serve and support our Community.

We can only do this in partnership with you! Watch your mailbox in the next few days for ways you can help us in our mission to Serve and Support.
