Latest Update from NIPSCO - All available crews and resources continue working around the clock to safely assess damage and make repairs as quickly as possible. Damage across northern Indiana from the storm includes more than 100 downed poles and 15 transmission towers, along with structural impacts to critical infrastructure. Based on the extent of damage, crews are working toward restoring approximately 90% to 95% of customers by Tuesday, June 16th at 6 p.m.

The recent stretch of unpredictable and intense storms that occurred on Wednesday, June 10 and Thursday, June 11, including strong winds, heavy rain and multiple reported tornadoes, has caused significant and widespread damage. Currently, more than 47,300 customers remain without power, down from 86,640 outages following Thursday’s storm. The hardest hit areas include Hobart, Merrillville, Chesterton, Goshen, Portage and Middlebury.

What’s the number one question being asked at town hall today………”When will we get power back?”

Answer - NIPSCO does not know because this storm was widespread and did extensive damage. It may be sometime this weekend before power is restored. A huge THANK YOU to all the electrical crews working to restore power!! We appreciate you!!

Most of the downtown Middlebury area is without power this morning, due to the storms last night. There are downed trees, and there are a couple trees that have electric lines in them, like the downed tree across Mill Street. NIPSCO has been notified of these trees, but it may take some time for NIPSCO to respond.

Please remember that when there is no power at a traffic signal, that it is treated as a four-way stop.

Middlebury Town Hall will be open at 8:00am. If you have questions, please call 574-825-1499.

The Water Treatment Plant and the Wastewater Treatment Plant are both operating on generator power until NIPSCO gets the power restored.

In celebration of the 250th birthday of the United States, Middlebury Public Library is opening up the floor to hear about some local heroes who have served our country, whether through public service, military service or individual acts of bravery. Each storyteller will have 10 minutes to tell a story of heroism, sacrifice, and/or what the United States has meant to them, and we'll have a reception with refreshments afterwards to discuss what inspired us.
